I saw this on the news as well. I see nothing wrong with it. It gave the kids a chance to name a bear for a school project. If they want to name it that so be it. That teacher should not suffer for something that she is bringing into her class and the students want to name it that. I feel for this woman. She is trying to do something useful and gets the wrong end of the stick for it. What is this world coming to?

She's now had some of the more major charges dropped but has been given a 14 day prison sentence and will be deported at the end of it. I've seen the protests on the news demanding her execution, it's fucking disgusting! Oh well, their loss. The're the ones living in a third world country with not much education opportunities and now the've lost a good teacher not to mention putting off any other people wanting to go over there and help them!

Shoot UK teacher, say protesters

Thousands of people have marched in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to call for UK teacher Gillian Gibbons to be shot. Mrs Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, was jailed by a court on Thursday after allowing children in her class to name a teddy bear Muhammad.
She was sentenced to 15 days for insulting religion, and she will then be deported.
The Foreign Office was in contact with Sudan's government overnight and is due to repeat demands for her release.

'Kill her'
The marchers took to the streets after Friday prayers to denounce the sentence as too lenient.

The protesters gathered in Martyrs Square, outside the presidential palace in the capital, many of them carrying knives and sticks.
Marchers chanted "Shame, shame on the UK", "No tolerance - execution" and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad".
Hundreds of riot police were deployed but they did not break up the demonstration.
The Foreign Office said it was seeking more details about the protest.
'Strongest terms'
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been in touch with Mrs Gibbons' family for a second time, speaking to a close relative of the teacher.
Foreign Secretary David Miliband has expressed "in the strongest terms" the UK's concern at her detention.
The Sudanese ambassador, Omer Siddig, was called back to the Foreign Office to explain the decision.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said he could not "see any justification" for the sentence, calling it an "absurdly disproportionate response" to a "minor cultural faux pas".
The Federation of Student Islamic Societies (Fosis), which represents more than 90,000 Muslim students in the UK and Ireland, said it was "deeply concerned" at what was a "gravely disproportionate" verdict.
The federation's president, Ali Alhadithi, said: "What we have here is a case of cultural misunderstandings, and the delicacies of the matter demonstrate that it was not the intention of Gillian Gibbons to imply any offence against Islam or Muslims.
"We hope that the Sudanese authorities will take immediate action to secure a safe release for Gillian Gibbons."
In September, Mrs Gibbons allowed her class of primary school pupils to name the teddy bear Muhammad as part of a study of animals and their habitats.
The court heard that she was arrested on Sunday after another member of staff at Unity High School complained to the Ministry of Education.

more enemies made

You slay me sometimes.

They want to KILL a lady who is living in sub-standard conditions in order to help educate their children. They want to BEHEAD a lady for not having a problem with a Muslim child in her class naming a teddy after himself. Not the prophet, the child was named Mohamed.

They want to murder her, and you're pissy about the possibility of us doing something to offend them, or maybe even make them our enemies?
:wtf:

Next time you're outside, I want you to look straight down between your feet, and just stare for a minute.

That's planet Earth you're looking at.

Got to agree. I'm all for giving people a chance ect but this is disgusting. I don't suggest war but if the're going to be like this they can piss off and deal with their poverty without our help!

UK peers visit teacher in Sudan
Two British Muslim members of the House of Lords have met the British teacher jailed in Sudan for insulting Islam. Labour's Lord Ahmed and the Conservative's Baroness Warsi met Gillian Gibbons at a secret location in Sudan's capital, Khartoum.
They have already met one Sudanese official and there are hopes they will meet the Sudanese president later, although that has not been confirmed.
Mrs Gibbons' defence team is confident she will be pardoned by the president.
Diplomatic crisis
Mrs Gibbons is being held in secret due to real fears for her safety after crowds of protestors marched in the capital demanding a tougher sentence, some of whom called for the death penalty.

Sources close to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir believe there will be more chance of securing Mrs Gibbons release through a Muslim-led delegation.
Lord Ahmed and Lady Warsi travelled to Khartoum on their own initiative after private negotiation with Sudanese officials.
The Foreign Office has made it clear that the peers' visit is separate to its ongoing efforts to get Mrs Gibbons freed.
On Friday, Lord Ahmed's office told the BBC: "We have it from the top that Sudanese authorities will co-operate in relation to her release."
BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says the meeting could provide a way out of the diplomatic crisis.
"Analysts believe it would suit the Sudanese government to be seen to be showing mercy in handing her over to a Muslim delegation, instead of appearing to 'give in' to their former colonial masters, the British government," Mr Gardner said.

They should hand her over to us or fuck off if they expect more of British handouts!:mad

You're missing the point man. A teddy bear can't be god!!! :clap
No, i got the point. Cultures are so dependent on their religion they would be willing to kill anyone who defiles it, even if it is not an intentional act.. It's sickening.

Well I heard on the news this morning that she was let off the hook by Sudan's president Omar al-Bashir giving her a presidential pardon earlier Monday.
