Someone told me that Awake was a good horror movie but I watched it today and can't say I would put it in THAT catagory. It was more of a Thriller. Anyone else see that movie?

I like the earlier Halloween movies and the Friday the 13th movies... all the new and "better" technology makes it less "horrifying" IMO. I like the grainy look. I think it adds something to it.

I won't spill the beans :)

I have always LOVED the Friday the 13th movies and all of the Halloween movies. I still cant watch Halloween if I'm home alone.

then it's settled-- when I come to WR in a few weeks, I shall meet my long lost twin!!!

(as long as it doesn't fall on a full moon or anything)

I've never thought Halloween was scary. And the theme is so scary sounding because it's written in 5/4 (unlike most music in 4/4) so you're not expecting the extra beat.

I too like:
*The Shining (original- superb atmosphere, although I don't like how they took short cuts with the story.)
*The Ring (the horses on the boat were unsettling, very atmospheric).
*Psycho (classic and powerful).
*The Grudge (nice and creepy).
*28 Days/28 Weeks Later- both are good, the first is better if you like something with a "zombie feel" to it, but in this case they are not zombies.

Two movies that really gave me the creeps were:

*The Blob (remake- when they are at the hospital, the girl goes out to the lobby, the boy sits down to make a call. She comes back and he is covered with the blob stripping his flesh with an outstretched arm. She tries to pull him out but only succeeds in pulling his arm off.)

*The Fly (remake with Jeff & Geena- the ending just gave me a very unsettle feeling and it takes a lot to do that.) Even the ending of the original gave me an unsettled feeling but considering when it was made it's not nearly as horrific as the remake.

And I admit the original Exorcist was very unsettling. It's a movie I never need to see again.

BTW, did anyone see and like Cloverfield? I think it would have been excellent except for the jerky cam effect which ruined it for me (flashback to that jerky Blair Witch movie).

Whaaaa. I can honestly say The Blair Witch Project is a top 20 horror movie for me. I say 20 cuz I don't know if it fits in 10 or not.

So I hear that [Rec] is really good but I haven't seen it yet. That movie that's coming out soon, Quarantine, is the American version of it.

Blair Witch Project was a load of wank, how it got all that hype is beyond me. I just sat there laughing at it, first time I saw it.

:(

Well it did something that wasn't popular at the time. I think the hype was a bit much but I'm never affected by the ol' hype machine anyways. I can't believe you didn't like the last scene. Oh well.

The fun of that movie was imagining that it was real and it was the first of it's kind (at least the first of it's kind for me as in jerky cam.)

I didn't think it was the shaky cam that made Blair Witch scary. Yeah, it added to the effect but it wasn't the sole reason.
