I have wanted to upgrade our TV in the bedroom and decided I wanted a DVD player as well. After researching I found I could actually get a TV with a Blu-Ray player. Decided on a 32" since that was the smallest 1080 with a blu-ray. Insignia is a Best Buy exclusive brand and they had it in stock. I made the purchase came home and set it up. I was totally disappointed in the TV. Picture was great but beyond picture quality I was not satisfied. I boxed it up and returned it to Best Buy. I told them I wanted my money back. I found out they will have to mail me a check since I paid cash and they will not return cash for more than $250. Lesson learned they will credit your card immediately.
 
I can't believe they wouldn't give you your money back right there and then, how long did you have it?
I have tons of patience with people, most times more than I should, but that's just me, if I were you at that moment, I wouldn't have left the store without my money, unless they could show me where it says in writing that I don't get my money back on items that cost more than 250 dollars, that's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard, it's no wonder you're pissed, I would be as well.

Like you said, lesson learned but it's still not right.

You need to test these things out in store.
Don't they have demo rooms or something?

Also, they can refund your cash to your account and card - they can do it on the spot. They're fucking lying and making interest of your cash, demand that interest back.

I wrote a review on the product on their website and made my feelings known in the survey on my receipt when I returned home. Unfortunately the fine print got me. I told her IF I ever make another purchase there over $200 I will be sure to use my credit card.

I just looked it up online, were you also aware that they may charge you what's called a 15% 'restocking fee'? If I read it correctly, that'll be coming out of the cheque that they send you....wow, I can't believe that!!
 
My receipt indicates a full return. That will be a war.


I just read about a lady who brought back a 2000 dollar computer after only 4 days and was charged a 300 dollar restocking fee, something that she was not aware of at time of purchase. Another lady returned a tom tom and was told the same thing.....both were also informed that they'd have to wait and receive their return cheque in the mail. I'd look into it if I were you, it says that some stores don't charge one but some do....I think it's incredible.
 
I like to browse Best Buy but I never buy anything there. All big electronic purchases are made at HHGregg. They match prices and since they work on commission they usually knock a bit off the price to earn our business. That is where we got our 63" tv for about $600 less than Best Buy had it for. :cool

Pretty lame that you have to wait to get your money back. Sorry about that Fred. Live and learn I guess.
 
Welcome to America in 2011.

We've become a society who AS A NORM designs our business practices to trap and trick consumers in fine print and costly hidden fees and charges.

It's the "Let's screw the customer" society, and it's my single biggest fixation these days. I've spent a LOT of time fighting against it, and have been successful about half the time in getting the "screw you" fees taken away when I scream loud enough.

I won't buy much of anything from Best Buy.. They are not customer friendly if you have any problems.

And Tang you are right about how some businesses work. I lost a job a couple months ago. The company low balled on the estimate and then installed twice as much of an expensive component than is required and end up charging as much as I would have.
 
So.... technically speaking, Fred...... This means that until you get your 'cash' back.... IF you wanted to buy elsewhere and let's say you didn't have a credit card.... you'd have to pretty much wait. Right?

Yep. Ordered the replacement yesterday afternoon from Dell. Going with the Sony Bravia 32" 1080 with built-in Blu-Ray player.
