banned for six games....fair?
in case you did not know of his situation....and his apology for his behavior...

Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh’s two-time Super bowl-winning quarterback, was suspended for four to six games for off-field misbehavior. The Steelers are also contacting teams about a possible trade for Roethlisberger and hoping for a top 10 pick in Thursday’s NFL draft.

Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual assault by two women in Georgia and a woman in Nevada. He denied the women in Nevada and wasn’t charged.

Art Rooney II, president of the Steelers, came out saying that they are going to discipline Roethlisberger with the league. He also said that they are going to give him another chance to prove himself before coming to the conclusion of trading him.

Rooney said that after talking with Ben, the QB is aware of his actions and the discipline coming to him and he is willing to accept it.

Roethlisberger stated, “I am truly sorry for the disappointment and negative attention I have brought to my family, my teammates, coaches, the Rooney’s and the NFL. I understand that the opportunities I have been blessed with are a privilege and that much is expected of me as the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I absolutely want to be the leader this team deserves, valued in the community and a role model to kids."

I don't like the idea that a mere accusation is enough to bring disciplinary action. Not one bit.

But, in his case, he admitted being in a sexual situation in a public place with a girl who was intoxicated though legally too young to drink. Because of that, I think it's within the NFL's rights to take action for his conduct.

Does it really matter if WE think it's fair? He is accepting the punishment because he knows what he did was wrong. It's not just based on an accusation he's admitted to them he was in the wrong for at least one of the girls. That's enough for him to be punished.

I think they are well within their rights to punish him. Professional sportsmen are supposed to set an example and to follow laws as well as conduct themselves in the best manner at all times. It's laid out in their contracts.

He was just stupid for breaking the rules of the contract therefore he gets punished. It could of course be worse than this.

:homo: and I'm a Steelers fan. However, I've never been a fan of this guy. Is he a good quarterback? Yes. As far as character...thppth.

While the DA might not have any DNA evidence and given they were in a locked bathroom, there isn't really a chance of there being any witnesses. The only people that know what really happened that night are the girl and Ben. As an armchair detective, my opinion (which means little) given the fact that she hasn't made a peep, hasn't gone to the press, nor has she decided to pursue a civil lawsuit is that either she's too traumatized to say anything, or she's been paid off. Either way, something despicable happened in order for those two things to be a reality and the fact that he came out and gave a nonchalant, arrogant, canned...er...for the sake of argument I'll call it an apology...and thinks he can just skate on by? Huh uh...I'm glad they are punishing him and I hope they trade him and draft the QB from Hoftstra. He's practically a Ben clone anyway (hopefully without the issues). By the by the Rooneys don't need this nonsense and have a reputation for not tolerating BS for the most part. They traded Santonio Holmes for a seemingly less horrible offense and he was a Super Bowl MVP...no one is nor should be immune...102+ million dollar salary or no. You play a kid's game for a living and get a crap ton of money on top of it (which is despicable in and of itself). However, you aren't above the rules and I'm glad they are taking him down a few pegs.

Myeah...done with it.

Kinda funny story though...a friend of mine went out the other night and saw a guy wearing a #7 jersey but instead of Roethlisberger, it said...or she thought it said, "THERAPIST." She asked her husband...why the hell does that say, "THERAPIST?" He said, "Er...honey...it says, 'THE RAPIST.'"

...and it begins.

my guess is she got paid off

He sounds like a perfect fit for the Raiders eh?

Sadly I agree...and that goes back to my original point. If something wasn't amiss, why bother? Raiders, Bills, and Seahawks all want him. I'm sure he'll be a good fit wherever he goes...if he goes. :p

What the fuck was a drunken 20-year-old doing hitting on a pro football player, anyway? What did SHE hope to get out the deal?

Probaby exactly what she got. Laid, and paid.

....and how do you know that was the case? Again, the only two people that know would be Ben and the girl.

PS: there is a reason he has a place in GA and doesn't go out and about in the 'burgh as much. The guy has a history and not just based on hearsay.

I voted yes and tied the poll with who tf is this guy. He obviously did something cuz he's going to accept responsibility for it. Doesn't matter who you are...you have to pay the price for wrong-doings.

Do I think a 6 game suspension is fair punishment for alleged rape??? HELL NO!!! The incident in GA occurred in Milledgeville...a Sergeant that was on duty that night had his picture taken w/ this guy (before the accusation was made, mind you) and he has been fired for conduct unbecoming. It's crap is what it is...pssssssh. Honestly I'm just sick of hearing about him. I didn't know who he was until now...and now I just know him as "that football guy that got arrested for rape in Milledgeville."
