I have no idea who's dogs these are.

Talked with my neighbor across the way again.... they've been running his acreage too. He seems to think they may have been abandoned because of the lack of collars/tags. Says this happens during hunting season at times.

What exactly does that mean? He didn't have an answer. Just shook his head.

You could adopt them. If they're tagged a visit to the vet will tell, they can scan for the ID chip. Seems like they're domesticated enough. The thing with beagles is that they are typically very friendly dogs, but not very loyal. They tend to run. All the ones I've known or owned did from time to time. Hell, Charles Schultz did a whole movie about a wandering beagle carrying his hobo sack. Snoopy Come Home, what a tear-jerking little cartoon for a kid.

I can't adopt them. I have a dog and a cat that I've already adopted. They keep me in the poor house as it is! LOL!

.... but if they continue to hang around, my neighbor said he will find them a good home. He knows lots of hunters. Even if the dogs were let free because they don't hunt very good.... these people will take them in. :D

I guess you've got to be a Beagle lover or something. All that howling! Oh my......

They are THE oldest breed of domesticated dogs. The Romans used them to hunt. But they are hard-headed and difficult to train. They don't typically lose their instincts though. But there are plenty of hunters who know how to train them.

Most of the time when you come across beagles without collars it's because they're penned and they find a way to escape. They are EXPERTS at that by nature.

That howling is a noise you won't soon forget. I don't know of a single noise a dog, or any other animal, can make that compares to it.

Hope they find a good home.

I hope so and tend to agree with you. However, how far will one's dog go from them when on the hunt? Is there some way the owner calls them back? And why no collars?

Some dog hunters prefer their dogs be uncollared so they don't get hung up on fences. The dogs look healthy.

How naive am I?

I didnt know people still used dogs to hunt...I thought that was back in the dim dark ages.:(

How irresponsible of their owner.:thumbdown

If these beagles are running deer or rabbits chances are they will not catch either. They will keep the game moving and the hunters will be waiting in ambush. Although some just enjoy listening to the dogs run howl & chase.

Don't they sell break away collars for dogs like they do for cats? I'd be so worried if they were my dogs and not wearing collars. Even if they had chips implanted. Who's to say anyone will check?

Yes....the dogs seemed healthy enough. Lots of energy for sure. They must have sniffed every single inch of the property surrounding my home. Then they hit the trails and disappeared. All you could hear was the howling.......

I let my dog out on her lead once I didn't hear them again... and she commenced sniffing every inch of her area!

:D Probably wondering what was so damned interesting.

Most likely!

While the Beagles were sniffing it up..... I had to keep my dog inside. She was running from window to window and crying and whining.... She was driving me nuts! At one point, I put her out on her lead.... Only one of the Beagles came up to her and they sniffed each other.... That lasted only until the other Beagle began howling and off it ran to join in the chase! Mine wanted to join in too... but for a very different reason. She wanted to play! :D

If you hear a lot of horn blowing it might be their owner calling them.

I suppose so.....

I took the dog out for a walk and we didn't see or hear any Beagles about.... It's late and dark, but I was thinking if they were in the area..... they might come up to us again. My dog didn't act as though anything was hiding out, so they must be gone or home. Home I hope.
