If we can come up with a trademark image, we can carry it over to any new design or logo going down the road and people will still know it's OffTopicz when they see it.

It gives that familiarity to the site no matter what the theme or logo

This one is REALLY good Dana.

I think this is a top contender.
You got the crisp, clean, stylishly professional look there.
And the creative treatment with the radiating symbol incorporated for "OFF" gives it a distinctive look.
The golden colour for "OFF" combined with the crisp white for "TOPICZ" and the beveled treatment (just right, not overdone) seals the deal.

Best one so far. Rep on the way. Great job.

Edit: Can't rep you just yet.

I wonder if we should try to come up with a good trademark for the site first and build from there... Up until this last update, the site trademark (If you wanted to call it that) was that green and white O. I used it for the Favicon, Icons to show new posts, Section Bullets, etc.

So if we can come up with a unique trademark image, we can incorporate it throughout the site for a more professional feel... like we know what we are doing. :D

What do you think?

The golden sun symbol Dana used to incorporate the "O" in his latest designs could be used as the trademark symbol Tim. Could make a good favicon.

Actually it wouldn't... it would have to shrunk down too much...

Favicons are 16px x 16px and that's a pretty small image to keep in tact. Most items become a blob at that point.

We would have to try to simplify it a little before shrinking it down... :dunno

I cant think of what company.. but the golden sun is a trademark of a tanning salon

Not that particular design treatment that Dana did though is it? So that's no problem.

Many versions of the sun can be used and has been used by various people for different things. Nobody owns the copyright for using a generic element of the sun, same as for other iconic images. It is the way it is used in terms of distinctive difference is all that's necessary. Suffice it to say it's not an identical copy.

Perhaps he could do a special version of the sun symbol for the favicon with the rays shortened...so what you would have is the circular shape of the "O" sun with wavy rays (short) surrounding it. That ought to be able to work.

since Tim quoted the one with the water mark, i added it back with a less defined outline.

Dana, one last thing. About the slogan "a place to come and get "OFF".

You see the script typestyle Tim used for his latest versions. That's a nice typestyle.
If you could use a similar typestyle for the slogan in your design I think it will look better than the one you have right now. It will add pizazz. But choice of font needs to be like what Tim used. Stylish but not too fussy and hard to read. White might look good. Gold might look good too.

There are no rip off's here... I would consider everything a collaboration in efforts to come up with the best possible logo...

Use what ever you want. I'll even send you my PSD files if you want.
