How important is it that a man be a man first, strong, protective and firm, when balanced against the need that women have for romance.

Women, and men can both weigh in on what they think the emphasis is, and how important the components are.

I think it is key to having a great relationship. I just also believe that the scale of balance tips in different directions depending on the woman too.

I think the problem with men and romance, is they let their egos get too involved.

And, a woman's idea of masculinity and a man's usually don't match up.

I think you can be strong and soft, and you need to know where the line is.

My wife appreciates the rugged side of me, the need to be outdoors, guns, fishing, baseball and hunting. But she also needs to know I have heart.

But not the whiney, sappy overly sensitive type, she likes the rugged heart, the masculine compassion.

Anything else is hollywood and cliche

So what romantic things have you done that your wife considers to be "rugged" yet soft?

To her it's seeing me teaching my oldest boy to fish, or swing a baseball bat.

Or something as simple as taking a task from her and doing it, grabbing a mirror she's trying to hang and helping her.....Holding her and not saying anything simply because I know she needs the strength and protection from something painful she's going through.

It's not Hallmark romance, it's human;)

Balance is totally the key here when it comes to sweeping a woman off her feet. A woman needs to be able to feel secure when shes with her man and that he can bring it if he needs to. But I also like the side of my husband thats not afraid to hold my hand or kiss me in public. The man that will whoot and holler with the guys, go out and get all hot and sweaty doing whatever guy stuff you do, but not be afraid to come home and cuddle with us on the couch and watch a movie.

I couldn't care less, I just be myself, if a woman dosen't like that balance, who cares? I've got a woman, anyway. If you pander to what a woman wants when it's not what you want, you're only going to end up miserable.

Not if your wish is to make her happy...Two people in a relationship should compliment the gaps in the other person, if not you're just sharing space

Making someone happy by changing your personality to what they want is an unreasonable expectation and will make you miserable because it's not in your heart of hearts what you agree with.
