Bad biology education in US

A survey reported in Science Magazine found only 28% of US high school biology classes teach the recommendations of the National Research Council and meet the requirements of most state science standards.

This is not good for the future of US science. I've heard the US has already lost many top physicists to Europe because of their Hadron particle accelerator. Now we're falling behind in biology. It's very discouraging for someone who loves the US.

I wouldn't say all of them are. It all has to do with student head counts and money per pupil from the state and where you live... and fundraisers.... parent support.... teachers that can really teach what they are assigned to teach.... students that want to learn......

The biggest thing is getting the materials, books, supplies to educate the students. And making sure the teacher standing before them is capable of actually teaching them or wants to.
 
The biggest problem the US faces is the attack on the scientific method from those with vested interests.

Unsurprisingly, the US is losing it's lead as a scientific world leader, and more's the pity: the massive resources the US has to offer are now being squandered because the country is losing it's grip on the scientific method. Such a shame, and the whole world is the worse off because of it.

We're losing our lead as a world leader on many levels. We've become a nation divided, not united. We can't secure our borders and many people abuse and/or take their freedoms for granted. We were once a very powerful, very educated nation. We've been going through an ugly phase, but change is inevitable.

It's a shame this is so. The most recent stats I could find show the US coming 7th in the world in 2005... the nordic countries are now leading the way.
 
I think it's weird but it makes sense to me now. Suddenly, why countries like Sweden, Finland and Switzerland come out of nowhere with all these great scientific studies and shit. I think one of them also has a really good/expensive program for treating anorexia too.
