As a spokesperson from Arkansas, we do not claim responsibility for this. Utah, you can have them.

Do they have the right to have as many children as they want? Sure.

But it doesn't make it right. Doesn't anyone care about the kids? The older ones are forced to take care of their younger siblings and give up their childhood in the process. How can 20 kids vie for the attention needed by their parents?
I would much rather be a great father to 2 to 4 kids than a mediocre father to 20.

I don't know how many of you watched some of the shows about this family, but it was very obvious that these kids were going to have a very hard time in real life later. They were socially retarded to say the least...
Like I said, I feel sorry for these kids. I don't think it's fair to them at all.

I loved this comment from the article.

Said Michelle on Today this morning: "I was not thinking that God would give us another one, and we are just so grateful." -- Did she think God had suspended the laws of basic biology?

I would be in the "ehhh, let them have as many kids as they want" boat if it wasn't well known that her last pregnancy involved several medical problems that, if I remember correctly, damn near cost the baby it's life. The human body isn't made to bear 20 children, especially not at the age of 45.

These are my thoughts exactly.

I don't think that the are bad parents per se (they seem really loving, caring and wanting their kids to have a good life), I just think they are over stretched and not able to give the attention and care the children need. It is especially obvious to me when you see Michelle homeschooling them. As soon as the younger children/babies need something she has to pause lessons, an older one steps in or the lesson just stops completely. It can't be good for the children that their education is so stop/start.

I wonder if there is any bad feelings in the kids that they are thrown to the care of the older ones as soon as a new baby is born? Or if the older kids feel resentment that as soon as a new baby is born they have to be a parent?
I remember a girl at school who came from a large family (think there were 8 or 9 of them and her mother had many miscarriages) and she told me she loves her brothers and sisters but she barely knew her mum (as her mum was always busy with the younger children) and her mum's quest for a large family seemed more important than the children she had already. I wonder if any of the Duggers have similiar thoughts.

I don't think that is right in any way for the older children to have to look after their brothers and sisters - they are your children so be their parent. Not get your children to parent for you.

I wonder how that can't be seen as child neglect? You have 2 parents of 20 children, who obviously if they're being attanded to by older children aren't getting the parenting needed.

Oh, I was thinking we haven't had a thread about this family for a while, always a popular one for some strange reason though why a family who looks after their children arouses so much hatred and controversy is beyond me.

But if the children are looking after the children, are they properly being looked after? You cannot truly know. So to say they are properly cared for is reaching.
