Unfortunately, I'm of the opinion that this kind of despicable crap is a result of the toxic culture that the Auburn/Alabama rivalry has created. It only adds gasoline to fire when you consider how poorly the state ranks in education. That place is simply loaded with ignorant people. And far too many people in that state place entirely too much emphasis in their everyday lives on freaking college football.
In total honesty, after living there 11 years, I absolutely hated the place and couldn't get out fast enough. And the omnipresent orgy of college football dominating every facet of daily life there was the primary reason. This action just confirms that I made the right choice.
Fred, I am truly sorry that this happened. I have been to Toomer's Corner plenty of times when my brother was a student at AU, it's tragic that it's history and beauty were treated this way. I hope I don't offend you with my loathe of the state. Logically I know it's unfair to allow the actions of a few ruin the reputation of others, but I imagine you can at least somewhat understand my sentiments.
