Auburn, Maine, to give iPads to each kindergartner

The iPad is hardly a tool of work though is it?

It's a very expensive toy.

when does education put a price tag on things? if you want the children to learn you have to pay a price. The taxpayers cover the cost with higher taxes and if they don't like it they can contact their local politician and tell them. but it is inevitable that children of younger ages will have computers in their classroom.

They already do usually.

They're called pc's, and they're cheaper and what the real world uses.

I agree with Zorak. It's a very expensive toy that a lot of fucking adults can't even afford.

That's exactly some of my point.

Nobody has a problem with kids getting experience with technology, but to spend so much on a technology that;

  • is out of date within 8 months when Apple release a new one
  • Is primarily for leisure use
  • is unrelated to the technology that they will invariabley encounter and have need of in working environments
