He was very bold in his stances against America and claimed destruction to the towers and several other terrorist attacks. It may only be symbolic but the sense of accomplishment has to bolster the morale of the troops.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you on this. The symbolism is very important here, I wasn't saying that to marginalize it at all.

We are in agreement that the symbolism may be greater than what it really means. He had been somewhat nullified recently even without a bullet in his head. Someone else just as full of hatred for all things America has already taken his place.

Wow y'all...... just wow.... :(

For clarity, my comment is in response to the petty bitch-fest/pile on that has ensued in this thread.:(

Cammie, you're right. We Americans tend to forget other countries have been involved in this clusterfuck of the last 10 years. Also giving their lives or limbs to the cause.

As for ubl, I'd have preferred to see his head on a pike or the sliver platter Cheney promised us oh so long ago..... Tho, Fred's pic of it hanging from Lady Liberty works.

I have no doubts that the burial at sea had an ulterior motive, but by treating the body with respect, America has shown a tolerable and even-handed side, sensitive to a foreign culture; this is what dispels extremism.
The only reason the US did that was so his supporters couldn't use his body when they decided to glorify him.

so yeah this will really change nothing

And your point?

Where has anyone implied that this was going to change anything?

When some dirt bag on death row is finally fried, it doesn't change anything, but the family of the victim may get some closure.

I think difference here is that Bin Laden was free to plot more deaths until he was murdered, where someone on death row is contained...and to say it changes nothing is just to lament the state of terrorism, not really try to point out some wildly obscure fact that no one else knows :p I just said it because I find it sad knowing that taking out someone this cruel and psychotic doesn't necessarily mean there is less of that in the world.

You all realize that this screws up many things as well right..

Hollywood is now going to have to re-write 40 new movie line plots and bad man characters and have no real bad ass in sight right now.. :24:

Did anyone else hear that this happened 8 years to the day of Bush's mission accomplished speech? And it was 66 years to the day that Germany announced Hitler's death???

A lot of people I've been hearing, not on this board, think that it will do a lot, but probably not.

I just watched a documentary about Hitler's last days on Saturday, too. Good time of year for the death of anti-social (putting it mildly) freaks.
