I know Atheists who have gone to chuch religiously and decided that the answers they were given didn't hold water. My boyfriend, for example. It wasn't because of the way people acted, it's not because he doesn't have to worry about the consequences of his actions. In reality, he takes full responsibility of his actions at the time they are carried out. He realizes that noone else is responsible for him or his actions. He's a scientist, and science and religion rarely get along.

Ok, now getting back to the topic...
as for the case of your boyfriend, I can understand where he is coming from and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't know if he thinks like this, but I know many Atheists find one religion to be false so they become Atheists and completely reject the idea that a god may exist. I personally think that if you're going to follow science that you should remain open to the possibility to a god existing rather than allow bias, wadda ya think?
