What is the motive when we pick on somebody? It is never about something else. It is always about us. If I were to pick on you, it would be because of something ugly within me, not something ugly within my faith. Too many people in this world want to pass the buck and never take responsibility for their actions. And this show is giving them permission to do so. The kids that picked on her should be held accountable, not a faith. If she is being discriminated against, they have taken the right measures by taking the issue to court.

So, in a massively religious town, you don't think her being an atheist or her not taking part in the prayer have nothing to do with this?

Dilligaf? Now you're just making shit up Peter

LOL.

Back on topic now though... I totally think it had something to do with religious issues. Which is a bunch of bullshit. Gotta love America.. You're free to practice it, as long as most people agree with you

sure they mocked her because she was atheist, but grace is saying is that it's not religion so much as it is the people. which is a fair statement, we make the same defense of violent videogames.

but let it be noted atheists are an actual minority that has some descrimination with it

yeah, but the atheism was the reason she was being made fun of. By pretty much everyone. I'm pretty sure that means it was a religious issue

I do not blame guns for shooting people. I do not blame food for making people fat. I do not blame commercials for making people max out their credit cards. I do not blame religion for discrimination.

People choose to murder. People choose to overeat. People choose to over extend themselves financially. People choose to hate and be ugly to one another.

These things happen with or without religion. Religion is not the cause. We are the cause.

People also choose to hate based on their religious beliefs, its not hard to understand.

Humans are the cause, but religion is an easy way to oppress and discriminate because hey, "Its what we believe". I think its sort of ridiculous that you don't think her being an atheist had nothing to do with it.

Answer me this, do you think she would have been discriminated against if she was religious?

I never stated that I didn't think her being atheist had anything to do with it. Not once.

I do think she was discriminated against.

And if you would read my posts more carefully you'd see that I am saying let's stop blaming other things for our own inequities. This is what we've been doing since the beginning of time. Eve blamed the snake. Adam blamed Eve. No one ever wants to take responsibility for their own actions. If we blame it on religion we take the focus off of the people that did wrong.

Religion did not cause them to do anything wrong. It does not promote them to do anything wrong. They promote it within their selves. If anyone reads the Bible and finds the message one to be of encouraging hate, the true hate lies within them.

I bet the snake took responsibility for his actions. Are you saying we should all be like Satan?

You didn't answer my question. If this girl was religious like everyone else, would she have received the same discrimination?

Certain mental factors and beliefs DO take part in wrongs people do. A racist is far more likely to commit a crime against another race than a person who is not racist, because of their racial beliefs. A fundamentalist religious person is far more likely to do the same against another faith because they have a religious backing behind their motives. It's pure elementary psychology.

lmao and the neg rep I received over my beliefs in this thread sort of proves that personal beliefs help carry out negative actions. So lame.

Awwww the coward didn't even leave their user name. :(

if religion isn't partially to blame, it is at least associated with these kinds of stories. children do bad things, and we know they're to blame. but that doesn't stop us from blaming the parents. and religion is the parent on a global scale.

and there's plenty in the bible that doesn't seem friendly, no matter how much i try to think of rainbows and butterflies when i read it.
