I just saw a commercial for this. Apparently, they give you a FREE cell phone, and 250 minutes FREE each month. Something about you're qualified if you are on food stamps or Medicaid.

What are y'all's thoughts on that? Am I the only person who finds it completely ridiculous?

Why would you think it's ridiculous? If it's funded completely by a private corporation it's their $$ to spend as they like. If federal or state $$ are used then it would be insane. It appears Virgin Mobile is running it and they have lots of dough but will be banking on folks buying the " extra " minutes and paying for texting so they have a lot to gain.

Here's a little blurb on it..............

Maybe I shouldn't take thing at face value.

I want to say I do remember a government funded cell phone program not too long ago, though.

And I guess I just don't understand why cell phones are a necessity. People went forever without them. It's just not the end of the world to not have a cell phone.

It's just a shot in the dark but there could be some sort of tax advantage for the company. You would need a Philadelphia accountant to answer that one. What I'm fairly sure of is most large corporations never do anything unless it increases their bottom line somehow especially in the " charity end of things. "

Everybody needs and deserves a cell phone. ;)
