You will change your mind when you watch someone die very miserably.
See its not really suicide per say it is making the person as pleasant as possible...sometimes the quantity of drugs needed to stop the misery is a bit more than the persons body can handle.
The end result is they dont die in terror but off in dreamland.
So Dana if you were dieing of lets say lung cancer would you want to be denied drugs to suppress the coughing..you are coughing and coughing...your head pounds with every cough you are pissing and shitting yourself...you cant get air..you know you are going to be dead in about 3 days..Would you take the drugs.
You are basically going to die of a very slow drowning Dana....Do you want to be awake or dreaming when it happens

That sounds like one shitty situation to be in. However, although my physical body would greatly desire to be rid of this torment, I would rather live through it until God judges the time for me to pass away. A lot can happen in three days, although we can not see the spiritual side, we can't just ignore it.

If someone does wish to commit suicide then it is their individual right to do so and so the decision rests in their hands.

NOW ... if a person is unable to speak due to their condition and no one really knows what their wishes are ... that's a bit more complicated.

Although we have the power to commit suicide, it's not an individual right. We have the power to commit many atrocities yet we don't because we have laws that we must adhere to for the betterment of mankind. Just as it's not an individual right to murder someone, it's not an individual right to commit suicide. -Just my opinion :)

I am for it.

so long as the person requesting it is sound of mind (put them through some psychological testing)

If the person is unable to speak or make rationalized decisions, then it should not be even considered, i firmly believe that such a decision should be made by ones-self and no one else.

The whole religion bullshit is well... another thing lol

How much do you want to bet that the people NOT for it, would still put down their pet because they're suffering. It's sad that people give more compassion to an animal than a human.

Rarely do we, as human decision makers, ever feel the need to consider the animals consent

Makes our God playacting so much easier

I don't think that a pet should be put down either. I think it should be taken care of until it's time for it to pass away..

I used to work in a nursing home. And it was so sad knowing that most of the residents weren't going home. It was even harder to see some decline slowly before passing on.

I wouldn't because it costs too damn fucking much :tooth The vet wanted to put my moms cat to sleep to do something like clean its teeth or somethng but the price was insane and they told her theres a good chance because of the age that it wouldn't wake up... uh hello....

It domt cost too much to put an animal to sleep! When we put Chris' lab down, it cost $75!

Miscommunication here ... I think Dana is talking about putting the pet under ... like for surgery while KLD1019 is talking about putting the animal "to sleep" ... euthanasia.

Probably close in cost with most places..a bargain either way to improve the life of an animal or to end it for one that is suffering badly

And you should have that right. Shouldn't another person have the right to make a different choice? Would you pass a law to force your choice on everyone, regardless of their wishes?

I am against any form of suicide, whether it's assisted or not. I believe every human being has a journey to go through in this life, both spiritually and physically. Having said that, although your grandfather was suffering, the time your grandfather continued living was important for his spiritual journey.

I think this is a wonderful statement. This is why I think it should be up to the individual person.

If Godsloveapples is not for suicide in any way, then she doesn't have to commit suicide ... or if someone she loves is contemplating it, then she can talk to that person about it.

However

If someone does wish to commit suicide then it is their individual right to do so and so the decision rests in their hands.

NOW ... if a person is unable to speak due to their condition and no one really knows what their wishes are ... that's a bit more complicated.

Really I'm pretty much the same way.

i saw my dad go from an extremely fit 73 year old to a shell,at 73 he was still working,a skilled man at that

lung cancer and bowel cancer was the problem,i saw his mind go,i saw his weight go....he was stick thin....i saw his dignity go because he couldn't even go to the toilet on his own, thats no life for a man such as my dad

i saw them continually drain his lungs to keep a shell alive,i saw the morphine go in..it had to stop.....losing my dad changed my life, but it had to happen for him....we stopped them draining his lungs etc,he finally went at around 6pm on the thursday night...not a good time...i was totally broken,i shouldn't have seen that happen to my dad,but it had to happen for his sake,he's not in pain now,hes at rest

less of the b/s suicide talk please, unless you've been there you dont know
