There is an interesting link on this page that is to a blog written by a UK based legal expert in which he discusses legal options that the UK govt might have in executing an arrest warrant on Assange despite his current status within the Ecuadorian embassy

an interesting story, i suspect, because i am a biassed liberal Canadian, that Assange's work is vital in uncovering deceit amongst governemnts but also that he should face the allegations of rape

Interestingly, you could also view his notoriety as a means in which he protects himself from answering to the rape charges. I can see both sides, but the story is pretty complex for me to try and guess what the correct route to take is.

Assange pissed off some people in some very high places and It just so happens that he conveniently raped some women. I may not agree with everything the man does, but I smell a rat and it's not Assange.
