Asking People To Pray When Things In Life aren't Going Right?

Do you think it's rude? Not everyone prays or is as religious as someone else may be. Keeping people in your thoughts isn't the same as praying but i think it works just as well.

What I find ruder is when someone dosen't give a shit about god all their life but then prays to him when something goes wrong. Putting myself in gods shoes (if he even exists) I'd get pissed off if someone only talked to me when they wanted something.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. I will admit I've done it, but it doesn't really make sense.

i don't find it rude. if someone is going through a hard time, no matter what it may be, i would never put down their faith and debate religion with them. "oh i don't pray, b/c I don't believe there is a god''. I tell them that I will keep them in my thoughts, or that i will pray for them...even though i don't pray. It's still comforting for them to know.

This is the route I take. When somebody is suffering, religious differences go on the back-burner.

No. I don't think it's rude. Just knowing others are thinking of you.... or praying for you.... in a time of need is comforting.

What about when you're in a group setting, say Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter dinner, and you're forced to say grace when it's not something you normally do? I find that rude.

Dana.... Here's what you do....

Look down at your lap.... now imagine a beautiful woman.... now imagine the things a beautiful woman is capable of..... Right about the time you start to squirm in your chair at the table.... Grace will have been said and you can then begin to enjoy your meal. See? Wasn't that easy? :D

My family are deeply religious and like to do this and as much as I hate religion and dont believe in god, I go along with it to please them. Seeing I dont believe in god, its no skin off my teeth and makes them happy. Objecting to it would just makes me as intolerant as the religious ideals I disagree with and prove that I think there is something powerful in their beliefs. I'll bow my head in grace and I'll also say god is a cunt, seeing I dont believe in him, it makes no difference at all.

Who is to say, that praying/wishing for something is effective or not? If 100 people wish for an outcome, who can say it does or does not make a difference? And I'm not implying when you pray it is to the great divine father who considers if you prayer is worth answering. Could there be another mechanism? In prayer, mental energy is being spent, there is an indescribable amount of energy floating around the cosmos. There could be an altered outcome. At worst, just a little time has been wasted. :)
