In my business I have to deal with my customers, General Contractors, Architects, Engineers & owners. By a large margin the greatest accummulation of A$$holes are Architects. First they are far more interested in appearance than feasibility. Second their contract drawings as a general rule are piss poor on a good day. Part of my job is to coordinate the Achitects drawings with the Structural Engineers drawings and to make the steel fabricator, steel erector and general contractor's jobs as easy and cost efficient as possible. When I ask for a piece of information I need which I have thoroughly researched and cannot find in the contract documents I would greatly prefer they save their attitude for the pizza delivery guy or the order taker at McDonalds. I have been doing what I do for over 35 years longer than many of these piss ants have been taking in solid food. If I ask a question it is not to point out your shortcomings. God knows I have plenty to work with if that was my goal.

Aww. *hugs*

I can imagine-- when people cop an attitude with you for no reason--especially when you are just trying to do your job, is frustrating.

I despise architects and engineers. Bunch of pompous assholes who think they know it all. They use your knowledge and then propose what they want anyway. Pump you for info under the guise you will get work out of the project. Took me some time to figure out how to limit what I tell them because the only thing guaranteed to get you the work is the lowest cheapest price. Nothing else matters.

I got a call this afternoon from an architect which is a great example of how our country is messed up financially. The school district is going to go for a bond approval for some upgrades which included some work in my field. They are going to absolutely waste $35k replacing something with a smaller inferior product. And the item being replaced if they did what I suggested would last 50 years at least for a cost of probably about $5k. The building super wants a new unit, the architect and engineers make money off the drawings and nobody knows the better. Take this example and multiply if by the billions every year.

Architect's fees are based on the dollar value of the project. The more of the owner's money they spend the more they make. The work actually goes to the lower bidder which means often the owner gets poor quality work because the low bidder missed something or he would not be low. Yet the smug ass architect still gets his big fee for doing a half assed job.

My title is detailer. I am paid to pay attention to detail. Before the recession I was paid handsomely for my expertise. Now I barely survive so the attitude when I am just trying to do my job really causes my attitude to plummet.

I find the same is true for me, Fred, except I get to the point where I just don't care what people say. When I started my current job I was a fresh-faced 24 year old...12 years later in a profession that has an average career span of 2 years, I'm desensitized.
