LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - It's a girl — again — for the Duggars. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 17th child, and seventh daughter, into the world Thursday.
Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rogers, Ark., the Duggars said in an interview. Jennifer weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and arrived five days after Michelle's due date.
Less than 30 minutes after giving birth, the Duggars already were talking of having more.
"We'd love to have more," Michelle said, adding that the girls are outnumbered seven to 10 in the family. "We love the ruffles and lace."
Jennifer joins the fast-growing Duggar brood, who live in Tontitown in a 7,000-square-foot home. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are home-schooled.
The oldest is 19 and the youngest, before Jennifer, is almost 2 years old.

I agree with that if you're talking about people who cant provide for them, but they live in a 7,000 sq. foot home....gotta be some money there. The kids are home-schooled and not using up public education dollars. Why is it irresponsible if they have 100 kids as long as they can take care of them?

Because it just doesn't stop with the kids... what about their kids and their kids, kids? After 3-4 generations those 17 kids will have enough offspring to populate a small town. Are the parents financially responsible for them too?

So what if they populate a small town? :confused When they grow up they are responsible for themselves. :confused Hopefully they are responsible members of society.

If we didn't procreate on the basis of not knowing if our children would turn out to be productive members of society none of us would have kids.

What if their 17th child is the one that cures cancer? Does this mean they should have a hundred children to see if they can make one that figures out time travel?

This logic just doesn't make sense.

There is nothing wrong with them having a large family if that is what they want as a couple and can afford it.

Ok I didn't know you believe in that, but it explains your answer at least. I understand where you are coming from now.

However, I obviously don't agree.

None of us can predict the future. We do not know what tomorrow holds. We can not take into account tragedies, disease, etc that will more than likely happen. All we can do is give guesstamations no matter how reliable we think we are basing our guesstamations on.

I would not suggest anyone not procreate on the basis of the 'over population' theory (conspiracy theory imo). Not every family has 17 kids, so I don't think we need to be concerned about it. Anyways what is anyone going to do about it? Be like other countries that limit people to how many kids they can have, etc.?
