...cont'd from the "Single!" thread...

I will never understand people who just can't be satisfied with just one person who loves them and cares for them. Never

Humans are not monogamous, by nature.

Monogamy is a belief and compassion induced act.

EDITTED!!

Says who though? A lot of animals in the animal kingdom mate for life (usually being the ones who don't live live in herds or packs) .. who's to say that humans aren't supposed to be that way too but choose to use that (example up there ^^) as an excuse to flit around?

Seems like more humans choose to be that way than don't (hell, even the bush people in Africa, that haven't been introuced to "our" morals, only have 1 wife and/or husband .. for life .. it's a really big deal to them).

Personally, I don't believe that for a second. I think we were meant to find someone and settle down and bear children with them, not do it multiple times.

I personally don't think it matters too much either way as long as you are both open and honest with each other from the start about it. Butterfly seems to have a great relationship with her husband.

I'm sorry, I typed out the wrong term. I meant to use monogamous.

And again, I believe it's been invented to create order. I believe humans DO have a desire for "pairing." But, not lifetime commitment.

If monogamy was natural for humans, then why is it so hard for men and woman to stay faithful? It should be "natural", correct?

Horses for courses as far as I'm concerned. It's a lot harder, I think to keep an open relationship going well because of human traits like jealousy which get in the way but as I've said, if you're open and honest from the start about it, I don't see the problem. Regardless of how you look at it though, I think everyone really wants a life partner in the end. Shagging around without any commitment anywhere will just leave you bored, lonely and unfulfilled eventually.

Although I do subscribe to the theory that we are NOT meant to be monogamous, I don't believe that it's OK to sleep around on your partner.

I believe that monogamy was created to keep order in the investment of a human pairing. I don't think it's a natural behavior amongst a human's instincts. I believe that humans will set boundaries within their relationship, whether that includes monogamy is up to them.

As I stated, I don't believe it's a natural behavior, BUT I do chose it. I definitely could not be in an open relationship! What's the point? I'm for the lifetime deal. I appreciate the growing that we do as humans, with another long time partner. To see the other change with our times together. To experience our lives together, and to influence one another's lives gets me excited. NOTHING about the "dating scene" or open relationships excites me. If I wanted to be with scores of men, I could have. I chose sharing myself with another person who shares the same feelings about the relationship's boundaries. Anything else would make me feel dirty and shameful. I hold myself in much higher regard than to be someone's fling or tuesday night screw.

LOL, didn't you read my statement that while I believe this theory, I don't think extramarital affairs are right!

I think some people use that as an excuse. We are not animals ruled by hormones and sunconscious impulses. I believe that the animal (or sin for christians) nature does want to spread its seed, but our humanity makes us not only capable of monogamy, but happily monogamous.

I hope that makes sense

right......look at mans closest relatives in the animal kingdom.....the apes......most live a small groups and have one prime male that does all of the mating with females......hes the strongest so he calls the shots.......wheras it would be hoped that we as a species have evolved since we were like that i dont think we have......only we mate for pleasure and not to reproduce
