Do you apologize about things even if you've done nothing wrong? This girl keeps apologizing for smoking in my apartment last night even though i told her it was fine...

I used to do it as an automatic reaction, but I'm getting better.
I apologize if I feel it is necessary, but I'm in no way overly apologetic.
I normally don't apologize unless I've really hurt someone.

Or next time tell her you don't want her to smoke and see what she does.
If I'm really in the wrong I'll apologize, otherwise no.
I probably fall into the over-apologetic category. I definitely tip-toe around people. I hate to make anyone upset and tend to make double and triple sure I don't offend in any way when I do something.
she asked numerous times if it was ok to smoke and i said yes and she said sorry repeatedly... i think its cuz she feels bad cause im not a smoker but if it were a big deal, id of said otherwise. I grew up for 10 years with a guy who smoked.

I applogise a lot to Bryan... other than him, not excessive.
I only apologise if I think I've done something wrong. I'm not going to say sorry just because someone has got offended or upset about something I did or said. If I can understand why their situation got them upset by it, I might say sorry for upsetting them but also point out clearly that I still stand by what I did or said.
There's a proper apology where you mean you're sorry for upsetting someone (even if like Pete, you still stand by whatever it was) etc - and then there's the polite social 'sorry' when you accidentally brush someone or get in their way in public walking about etc.

Yeah, I do it a lot. What really gets me is when I say "I'm sorry" as in "sorry to hear that" and get "oh, it's not YOUR fault" in return. Ummm, yeah, I know it's not MY fault that you and your husband are getting divorced...I'm just sorry to hear it.
If I'm ever a part of an awkward conversation about something bad happening to someone I try and refrain from saying I'm sorry, cause then they feel even worse!!
If I have done something wrong then yeah I'll apologise, I would expect the same thing from people who have wronged me.
