Anyone familiar with working on cars... Help, please!

The light bulb that indicates whether my cruise is on or off has fallen loose. It rattles around in its little space and it's driving me crazy. I would love to fix it, but I'm not sure how. The best I can figure, I need to pop the steering wheel off, but I have no idea how to do it. I don't want to pry it off and ruin it, or have the airbag blow up in my face.

This is what my steering wheel looks like:



On the spokes, it overlaps the base of the wheel, so it's almost like where all the seams are, it could just pop off and leave with center with a section sticking out from the bottom side.

Any one know how to get it off so I can get the light fixed? It's under the left side button, in the upper right corner.

The first step is removing the fuse that controls the airbag, that will prevent it from deploying while you're removing the "cover" of the steering wheel. I have never done it myself, but I've seen others do it. It seems to me that the steering wheel cover never really goes back on perfect after being removed, it's not really meant to be removed.

I've seen people do fuses before. I just have to find the map for my car, then.

Any ideas aside from taking it off? I tried prying just that section off, but didn't try real hard because I didn't want to break it.

I am not sure but you might be able to carefully pry the button out. I know most things on cars today just pop in and out fairly easily but it does require a little effort.

I pulled a panel off and got the fuse unplugged. I tried sliding a card around both parts of the Burton. The seeing wheel is surprisingly flexible, but now I think the button section might be attached to the base of the steering wheel. Not finding much on YouTube or forums.

My cobalt has the same exact steering wheel. What happened with me, is the light bulb got lodged somehwere in the button and I couldn't see it anymore. I just left it alone and it fixed itself.

But what Fred said makes the most sense. I wouldn't go taking off your steering wheel at first.

I'd be VERY careful messing w/ a steering wheel. I've seen far too many firefighters get their bell rung by an airbag deploying even after disconnecting the fuse. Good luck, Kim!!!

I kept setting stuff about disconnecting the battery. I just put it back together. Until I know exactly what to do it can stay.

Kyle- I saw a lot of comparisons to cobalts when I was looking for info.

And it's purely cosmetic. Not something to take it in for.

I also want to change out my shifter knob. My grandfather drove and chipped the "metal" with his ring and now it's peeling up and scratching me. I might just pop it off and scrape the finish off so it's the white plastic-y stuff.

Get a guy to call the Saturn dealer and ask the service manager how to take it out. It very likely has offset fingers that just grip the hole the button sets in. Not that they won't tell a woman but you will have better luck if a guy makes the call.
