I am not sure how it works but every charge costs the business a certain amount so small purchases really hurt the business if they accept the credit card.

It used to be about 5cents per charge at the gas station I used to work at but that was 10 years ago so I don't know now.

If I use my credit card at all, it's always for something way more expensive than $10. I make it a habit to pay the balance in full each month to avoid paying interest though.

I don't carry cash. My pay check is automatically deposited into my account. I use my debit card and always say credit. That way I'm not pushing pin numbers. Plus it takes a bit longer to take the money out of my account. I get interest on my checking account too, so it adds up over time.

I had a credit card once. My mom forced me to get it to build up my credit rating, but after three months of paying credit card bills, I canceled it. Now I just pay for everything with cash, not that I'm a huge shopper or anything.

I belong to a Credit Union. Perhaps that is the reason? Do you get interest on both your checking and savings accounts? :D

I could get interest. But then the return rate on checking always sucked. Better to keep a free checking account and a minimum amount in it and transfer funds. IMO

Not sure about Canada.... but in the States you can't rent a car until you're 25 and without a credit card. Do you ever intend to buy a car on payments? Or purchase something big later on..... like even a house? Sure doesn't hurt to have a credit card in your name. You don't have to run it up..... just charge something now and then and make a few payments and that will establish a credit rating for you.... for the future.

I have FREE Checking because of Automatic Deposit of my Pay check. Interest on the checking account is just a bonus. I keep most of my money in the Savings though. It does earn a tad more.
