Anybody with medical knowledge

I already sent Amy an PM(Since she works in the ER), but I need some advice. Last week, I fell off of a big fence. Luckily it was near the bottom, so I fell maybe 2-3 feet, maybe less. It was very close to the ground. Well, I've been in really bad pain on my left rib lately, and just now, I felt it to see exactly where it hurts, and I felt something weird. I don't know how to describe it, but it feels like a vein or something. I know it's not normal, because it's not on my other rib. It's not actualy on the rib, it's like, the lower section, maybe the last few ribs, or the very bottom of the rib cage. I'm wondering if it's just the bruise I'm feeling, the pocket of blood or something. Any ideas? Should I see a doctor or what?

If you are in really bad pain and feeling things on your body that seem out of place or not 'normal', you should absolutely go see a doctor. It is better to be safe than sorry, plus maybe they can give you something for the pain.

It could easily be a cracked rib. They hurt like the devil too.

Broken ribs are even worse, if it were broken it would hurt just breathing.

My guess is you've either bruised the dickens out of it or cracked it.

Only way to know for sure is to go see a Doctor.

it's prolly broke and if it is .. you just have to grin and bear it

I don't think it's that serious. I didn't feel a crack or anything. As for pain, Grace, it does kill to stand up from a laying down or sitting position, but once I'm up and walking, I'm fine. Bending or kneeling does hurt though, and touching it hurts. It's not like horrible pain, but enough to make me wince.

Crusty, you're right. I've never bruised or cracked a rib, or for that matter, broken any bones. I'm thinking tomorrow or Tuesday I'll try to go to the doctor. For a few days, the whole area around my ribs and stomach was sore, but now it's just my lower left ribs.

If it is not hurting you to breathe then you probably just bruised it.

Sounds to me like either bruised or cracked, not actually broken. The thing with ribs though is you're looking at 4 - 6 weeks of significant pain and absolutely nothing to show for it! No bandages, cast, nothing!!!!
Be well dodge, and try not to fall over again in the next month or so!! ;)

I am willing to bet that it is bruised or broke. I have had both and neither one is fun that is for sure. I would suggest wrapping an ACE bandage around you really tight and that should ease the pain. Been there done that and got the T-shirt several times.
