to insert a plus or minus sign (the little + over a - ) on Word 2000?

First you type the + sign, then right after that you put the - sign. Then go to folder/options/shift select shift over then under in the drop down menu... but make sure you have the +- highlighted before making that selection. Then is should shift the + sign up and slip the - sign under it neatly resizing it to proper proportions.

Or just hold down the Alt key and type in 0177 like this ±

If you want to show degrees like 85° then use Alt+0176
