I have to get two teeth pulled. Not cut out, not filled, no root canal, just straight up pulled, with pliers. They tried giving me the numbing agent through a needle last month, but when the dentist started pulling, I could feel it. Long story made short, I told him to stop, he didn't, and I stood up and stormed out.

My parents suggested I go to their dentist, and get a dose or two of Halcion(Apparently it's a pill you take), and about an hour later, you're more fucked up than you've ever been before, yet mostly concious, and even though you're completely fucked up, you can still answer questions(It's basically a "concious sedation"), but the next day, you have a bit of amnesia and won't even remember the tooth pulling at all.

Anybody able to shed some light on this? I'm TERRIFIED of the dentist and cannot stand ANY pain at all. I almost die every time I so much much as walk into a table or stub my toe. But I've seen my mother under the influence of this pill when she got her teeth pulled, and it seems like a legit thing.

I'm not familiar with that particular drug but I am familiar with that type of dental procedure. What you put is basically all there is to say - it makes you a bit woozy and you'll probably talk like you're drunk, then afterwards you'll probably forget most of what happened.

I don't know what the process is like in the US - over here you'd have to ask a dentist to prescribe it for you and they'd have to agree, but it doesn't sound like that'd be a huge obstacle if your pain is as bad as you say. Just make a big point of how much you cannot stand the procedure without something strong.

I have no idea what drug I was given, but I had conscious sedation a few years back when I broke my ankle. (It was via IV though)

Hubby was with me, and told me I was responsive to questions and instructions... but even that same day, right after, I couldn't remember anything that was done to my foot in that time.

If it's true conscious sedation, you shouldn't have a problem. Hopefully.

So basically, you're like a zombie(I know, that sounds stupid probably), and you don't feel any pain? During the procedure, did you know what was going on(Like seeing stuff, hearinge everything, just really really drunk-like), or once the drug kicked in, was it more like being blacked out or asleep or something?

You'll know what's going on during. People can hold full conversations with you, you just won't recall a lot of it :)

If you know what's going on, how does that help with being in pain at all? Doesn't sound like a very good concept. Or am I misunderstanding something in the use of this drug?

My mom took one of the little blue ones (whatever dose that is) and we found her in bed nekked engrossed in a book that was upside down.:24: She never took another one.

As for getting a tooth pulled - get gas. All will be well. Just have some ginger ale around the next day cuz it might mess w/your tummy. It did me. But in the chair I felt NO Pain.
