in humanities history, we have taken massive steps not only intellectually, but socially as well.

10 thousand years ago humans lived in small nomadic group called band societies.

6 thousand years ago, agriculture developed and with this came the 1st proto states.

Around 2,000–3,000 years ago, some states, such as Persia, India, China, Rome, and Greece, developed through conquest into the first expansive empires. Today we our bound together as nations.
Here you can see China when it began 3000 years ago up until today.

the problem is.. these nations do not celebrate nor do they care about the wellbeing of humanity. there attention never strays past that of their own nation's wellbeing.

When america 1st went to the moon, there was a lot of controversy over which flag should be flown. some people thought the flag of earth should be flown to represent all of humanities 1st steps on terresterial soil. Some people thought the European union flag

its time for society to take the next step. its proven through history that when we band together, we achieve more.
nationalism is no long necessary. we should not care exclusively about our own nations. we should care about humanity as a whole. we should take into concideration our actions affects on all of society, not just what they can contribute to our own nation.
all this suffering in the world that is caused by nationalism. by selfishness. with a virtous world leader, we can get over this. we can end alot of suffering and put that labor to good use. instead of war we can contribute that energy to science, we can put those resources into research to fight aids, or ageing, we can come together as humanity to fight pollution, deforestation.
with a virtous world leader, he or she could promote a truely socialist society where the desires and needs of humanity come 1st.

we base our life decisions off of our desires and needs weather those desires are intellectual, materialistic, spiritual, or even the desire not to desire. the results of these desires are what pushes mankind above all the rest.
when we strive for greatness and knoledge, when we strive for wealth and power. we push foward humanity. the only question is, is how much of that desire is going to be used to push humanity foward and how much will be used to bring us down with war and fighting

the boundaries of nationalism is what holds us down. we cannot combine our power as humanity when our nations turn us against each other.

This is a rough sketch of what I want my speach to consist of. I want to try and show my class that nationalism is limiting humanity. That we can do much more if we come together.

Can you please give suggestions to improve my speach?

I need advice, so let's stay on topic. It would be so horrible if this thread turned into a state-flaming thread. :(

Its a point which cant be ignored though, you cant critisise a country for something you do also. Brushing it under the carpet and saying USA good, anyone who disagrees bad, is simply buying into propaganda.

Who here said USA is good? Please, i'm begging you, just don't post in this thread if your intentions are to flame a country. I am from USA, and i disagree with a lot of the things they do. Never-the-less, I disagree with many other countries as well.

USA is a central nation, and it is one of the main nations that would need to be watched by a potential world leader. Knowing this, the USA would not want nor support a world leader unless they had control over him or her. What I am proposing goes against what the USA would want, so what you are saying is pointless and shallow. It's like you don't understand the point i'm trying to make.

Please don't point fingers. It's the idea overall that I'm concerned with.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm reading you wrong but your whole post seems to be about flaming other countries while completely ignoring your own shortcomings.

It will be extremely difficult to find advice for this speech unless somebody shares the same view point. Good luck.

To be completely honest Peter, I'm kinda wary of even responding to your post here. From what I have seem from you, you don't really understand much, and responding to this will just encourage you to bring the topic further off topic.

Knowing this, i'm going to answer, but PLEASE do not drag it off topic any further

My post nowhere says that USA is the ideal nation. My post says that nationalism is not the answer. I use examples from USA becasue that is where I am from. the United States is actually what motivates me to even WANT a world leader. I have seen what negative effects USA can impose on smaller countries, and I disagree with them. The problem is that since USA is the Hedgemony, noone can really say much. This is a major reason why I support a world leader. To limit overly imposing countries such as the USA. Understand now? :willy_nilly:

I see your point a bit more now but I disagree. You seem to only want someone to agree with you. If we have one world leader your points will be less clearly heard dont you think? Seeing within a dozen posts you already accuse me of being a troll and want the mods to do something about me, you really dont seem the sort of person ready to at least accept the opinion of the masses. ;)

Would you accept the opinion of the under achievers working at minimum wage jobs, or people who actually understand the world and respond with logical posts?

I think you're reading her wrong. The statements she writes are clearly global and don't exclude anyone.

Shygirl, are you sure about that bit about the EU flag?? Don't you mean UN? That was back in the 60's.

I don't know what level/grade you're in or how deeply you want to go with this, but I think putting as much detail of this latest global economic fiasco and the G20 agreement would really put you over the top. Good luck. :thumbup

Accountable, can you please elaborate on the "latest global economic fiasco and the G20 agreement"? Also, can you tell me how they would be the result of nationalism?

Economically speaking, we're already transitioning into a global framework. Your speech is going for political framework, right? I think a compare/contrast of how the international corporations global actions are affecting the national political systems, and how effective you think they (the governments) are being at coordinating a resolution to the economic crisis.

The research is your responsibility, scholar. ;) I can't say that I agree with you, as I believe the more decentralized government is, the better it can be kept under control, but it's an ambitious and worthy topic. So I'm presenting ideas as they come to me.

As someone on the breadline, yes, I respect my opinion. ;)

Ah, fair enough, I did think we had some wire crossed unneccesarilly here.

Look, shygirl, you're new here, we clearly had a bit of a misunderstanding. Your rude posts only got my back up a bit though, as you can imagine. There are extremly right wing people on here who while I completely disagree with a lot of their posts, I respect and are actually friends with them, there is just a polite way of talking to people and when this is your first day here, its best to be a bit more polite that when you get to know people and know what you can get away with as just banter. So how about we start again then, no hard feelings? :)

If this is purely philosophical I see the merit of your point of view. From a practical point of view a world government would be very problematic. I don't think people in general are ready to give up their national sovereignty.

That is really nice of you to want to get along. I don't care if your mean or not though. I am a huge introvert, my life is extremely busy. As you can see from all the papers i'm asking for advice on, I am a very very busy girl. I have a BF that I get to see maybe once a week, and friends that I get to see less. I really am not here to make friends. I don't want you to compliment my posts, and I won't yours. I ask only that you put some thought into your responses. It is extremely annoying and daunting to have to respond to a post that is.. irrational at best. If you respond with intellectual, thought-provoking posts, I will respect you, and enjoy your ideas. I love to see different point of views.

I don't hate you or anything though. I'm just being blunt. Blunt honestly is the best form of honesty becasue you KNOW exactly what it is that bothers me, and there is no question as to why. Would you feel better I treated you like a 5 year old, and simply smiled at you when you attempted to refute my posts?

My point is, just use your brain.:p

Yes, I agree 100%

Specially with religion today. Even the thought of having a world leader has half the world running in circles screaming anti-christ at the top of their lungs.

We have a long ways to go as humanity, but it doesn't hurt to attempt to give the idea some thought. It has to start somewhere.

Can you give some example of what would be problematic in your oppinion. My essay doesn't really address any problems, so I think it would be good to hear some, so that I can try to address them.

For instance, the anti-christ one is a major concern.

Well ok then, seeing you are ok with blunt, you will stop resorting to insults when I give a blunt opinion. My answers are not trolling, they are simply giving an opinion, one which is different to yours. I welcome a blunt opinion back when it is backed up with reason, not just insults like yours have been so far. Like I've said, their are actually posters whose opinions I agree with less than yours, I do however respect them more than yours because they give a reason behind it, wether I agree with it or not and dont simply answer my points with "you're stupid but I cant say why" posts which, bluntly, have been about the sum core of yours so far.
