Full of crazies as usual!

It was actually quite funny today. I'm not sure this man was mentally stable.

The bar is empty and he takes his drink and goes to sit in the restaurant area. I ask if he is eating and he says no, i say "I'm sorry, these tables are reserved for diners. However, there are many free tables in the bar area."
Man: "Are you taking the piss?"
Me: "no, im not."
Man: " Do you know who i am"
Me: "no i do not."
Man: "Im here for the festival!"

WHAT?!? you deserve specialist treatment cos you like 1,000,000 other people came to Edinburgh for the festival.

He storms off in a huff saying something about we welcome diners but tell people who are drinking to piss off.

He comes up to the bar and starts bitching very loudly to my managers friends who were having a drink about how I wouldn't let him sit in the dining area and im this and that blah blah blah.

Me: Ah yes i am a horrible person
Man: i was just talking about you
Me: I know, I heard *polite smile*
Man: Do you know who i am yet? im famous you know.
Me: oh really?
Man: yes im a singer
Me: oh ok thats great
Man: Im really famous in london!
Me: oh ok
Man: Im in phantom of the opera. If i want to sit in to dining area you should welcome me to sit down! and anyway having cutlery on the table does NOT make that area dining only.
Me: of course not. But that area IS a dining area and the cutlery is on the tables to indicate the purpose of those tables.

he walks away and my managers friend who had just arrive from london and who goes to see every version of phantom of the opera that is showing said. "yea he's not in phantom of the opera." ya i figured by the fact that he could barely speak let alone sing!

And BTW if your that famous. you don't have to use the words "do you know who i am"

what a day.

the fact is there is no telling how long a drinker will cradle his pint. he can be there for hours. we have set tables that people can eat at so we can have a quick turn around and maximise profit. It is a business after all. if the restaurant was empty and the bar full i would allow people to use those tables(normally with the understanding that they may be asked to move) but in the evenings, especially in the festival it is normal that we have every table full and 7 or 8 more tables waiting. we cant afford to have some tit who has been sipping the same pint for three hours taking up a table.
