No thanks, we've moved on since the days of hanging as a society, letting them rot in prison is a harder punnishment and personally I wouldn't want to to see even one more Derek Bentley murdered by the government for a crime they didn't commit.

The urge and the fantasy of revenge is something I think we all feel on occasion, but there are just better solutions all in all.

I met some pretty nasty pro-capital punishment people though, saying all criminals should be killed, and refusing to really understand the root of some of the problems. *shudder*

i really think it should be thought about........another example of lawless britain

Man stabbed on way to visit newborn son - Yahoo! News UK

The media over reports crime in most western countries. Its a fact. Actually, one of my CCJ textbooks talks about the media's distortion of crime in its first chapter. Before they even talk about what the definition of a crime is. Go figure.

If you want to look into it, crime in the UK has significantly decreased over the past several years. Crime in the UK is at its lowest since the home office started using the BCS in 1981.

I just love the emotional responses to articles like this... And that is the number one reason we shouldn't have the death penalty. We would be sentencing people to death because of a strong emotional reaction and not based on the facts.

I mean who really knows the facts in this case? Just because this guy has a newborn and was going to the hospital with his three year old daughter doesn't mean he wasn't the scourge of the earth that beat his wife and daughter. Or was a child molester happy that he had a new kid coming for his enjoyment. Who's to say he's not the one that instigated the whole fight and the other person got the knife from him and finished it? Maybe he was just a victim of a senseless crime..... Know one knows, yet some are ready to build the gallows....

I never said it wasn't. But that doesn't mean another person has to be murdered by the State.

Quite right. In a case like this, where he clearly is the guilty party, it should be up to the victims families to decide what the punishment. Tell me the victims wife, sorry, widow wouldn't like to see the idiot hung.

how can you ever report a man being killed in front of his 3 year old daughter?

Err, I meant in general.

If you look at it statistically, the media are very selective in the crime stories that they report. And whilst coverage of crime related stories have been increasing, crime has been decreasing.

Most people these days have the belief that crime is on the rise, when its exactly the opposite. This can be solely attributed to the media's reporting of crime related stories.

He is clearly the guilty party? How in the hell can anyone extrapolate that from just one article?
No one can say what happened yet.

:clap

Absolutely!
And not only that, they love stories like this where kids and newborns are involved. Hell, this story really tugs at the heartstrings of most folks. The story did as intended, it created a emotional response.

fortunately, we don't live in a society where the victim's families get to make emotional, knee jerk reactions to a wrong that has been done to them.
If we lived like that, we'd be having duels at dawn still cuz someone looked at you cross-eyed on the street.
