In the long run, I believe you will be better off man. I know how you feel about child support. I finally got the official papers on my little one today. Keep your head up man. It will all be OK.

...speaking about the burning bridges bit....

what do you say to future employers who may ask the question, 'why did you leave or what was the reason for leaving your last job'? This is something i often wonder about with people who have been fired or let go for reasons we all know aren't right.

Hope a job comes up for you soon Nic.

I'm honest about it. I was fired twice before. Once was after an on the job car accident and they skirted the law to get rid of me because they were afraid I was going to sue them. The other time I was let go because I, "wasn't performing to company standards"... After I received no training and nobody bothered to teach me anything despite my asking over and over again.

This time I'll tell them that my boss told me I had to make a 16 year old piece of software work on new equipment, that there was documentation from my predecessors that said they couldn't do it, and I wasn't able to either. He set forth an impossible task, and while I'm very good at what I do, I cannot work miracles.

If you have the entire process documented why don't you sue their sorry ass for wrongful dismissal? I detest employers that fuck people around like that and believe they should be held accountable by way of an ass kicking in the cheque book area. No mercy, no sympathy just a good old lawsuit.

Our labor laws are extremely weak here Guyz. Workers have few rights unless they are in a union, and even then, recourse is often severly limited. Lawsuits cost thousands of $$$ and the newly unemployed can ill afford that.

Most California employers utilize something called "employment at will" meaning they can hire and fire you for no real reason, without legal repercussions.

Most states have "At will" employment laws it seems. I can't think of any that are different. Proponents of this system try and make it seem like it's a win-win for employer and employee, but in reality, it's totally biased in favor of the employer. Employers can even contest your ability to recieve unemployment insurance payments.

I'm glad we've managed to come out of the dark ages as far as labour laws are concerned. We still have a ways to go but what happened to Retro wouldn't be looked on as being very favorable here. Many lawyers would jump on the case for a piece of the action.

I got a good hunk of change from my last " office employer " when I packed it in just by reminding them I had a very well documented case. I basically blindsided them one Monday morning and had my deal in place by noon the next day and on Friday I walked out feeling like a million bucks.

It's good to hear the humble employee gets justice someplace. Here, we are conditioned to "employer worship" those magnificent "job creators". They created this scam law many years ago called "Right to Work", which crippled unions. The unions called it "Right to Work for Less". They voted it in here in Oklahoma in 2000, and now all the good citizens who voted "Yes" on the catchy sounding law are wondering WTF happened to their wages that have now dropped to pre-2000 levels. Gotta love that conservo-libertarian philosophy.

Enough with the goddamn politics. Just close the freaking thread if that's all it's going to turn into.

Is this not in the offtopic portion of the forum? You can't be mad about the topic straying. You could have posted it in the relationships and family subforum or something if you didn't want it to go off topic. IJS. ;)

It's your thread and you can do what you want with it but it's nice to know what happens in different parts of the world when an employee gets fucked over as you did.

Btw I forgot to wish you luck before. I hope you land something decent sooner than later.

Thanks. I prayed for him to die on his way to or from work every day for the last two years.

It didn't work. :(
