:24: Where did Michael Moore get his info from? And did he forget that throughout the entire campaign, Obama talked about how Afghanistan was a war we needed to be fighting? How is Obama's stance on this a surprise?

If there were only 100 Al-Qaeda members left, our forces in Afghanistan wouldn't be facing the casualty rate they are. Some of them probably aren't physically always in Afghanistan, a lot of them train and arm in Pakistan and then cross the border to fight. The border between the two countries as well as the Waziristan (I probably spelled that incorrectly) have been sites of great bloodshed, proving that our enemies have not been uprooted.

We are also fighting to prevent the Taliban from gaining more power and overtaking the country. If that happens, then Afghanistan will become an even greater terrorist stronghold ruled by violent right wing extremists.

The cost of sending additional troops is $20 billion per year. Better to spend the money on the welfare of americans given the fact unemployment and poverty is on the rise.

He was talking about Iraq in that clip.
If that clip is for Iraq its still strange cuz what he meant by bringing hope the troops is I think he is not in favour of continuing the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Even assuming that 100 number is correct - so what? We went in to remove the Taliban. Any mention of how many Taliban forces are left?

Correct me if I am wrong. Michael Moore is 100% correct. The way I look at it Obama is contradicting now. The troop surge is a carefully crafted withdrawal strategy without creating a vacuum, accelerating the training and recruitment of Afghan soldiers and policemen. When US troops leaves by 2012 you can expect civil war.

Obama is confusing people. He increases troops by 30k and at the same time has a timetable for withdrawal which coincides with campaigning for re-election.

As expected the Taliban has responded

KABUL) — The Taliban rebuffed President Barack Obama's new war plan for Afghanistan on Wednesday, saying his strategy to send 30,000 new troops will only lead to more American casualties.
In a statement, the Taliban said the Obama administration's plan was "no solution for the problems of Afghanistan" and would give insurgents an opportunity "to increase their attacks and shake the American economy, which is already facing crisis."

I've asked this before and I'll ask it again. How the hell are you supposed to win against an enemy you can't identify? They wear the same cloths as the rest of the population. Many of the civilians are on their side and assist wherever possible. The Russians got their red ass kicked so why does the " coalition " think they can win?

Here's something else to ponder. Many of the Afghan military don't think the " enemy " are really the enemy. With that mindset how the hell are you going to get 100% cooperation from them? Speaking of the Afghan military it seems obvious to me that the bad guys could infiltrate them very easily which I'm sure is being done as we speak. Now what? One military for and against.

One more ponder if I may. When the coalition ( meaning all countries including the US cuz you're not there by yourselves ) pull out of Afghanistan are they going to take all their equipment home with them or leave it behind so the infighting can continue as it has for the last umpteen years? ie: guns, artillery, canons, tanks, trucks and who know what else......

How many other countries are viably in this "coalition" in Afghanistan? I assume their participation is at "token" level at best. I don't understand why O doesn't take advantage of this great international warm&fuzzy vibe (aka the "I'm not Bush", syndrome) and demand all his new world friends pony up with money and soldiers. He could wag his Nobel at them and say "I need your help to make PEACE come faster!"

I can assure you the British participation is far from token which is leading to similar debate at home here to what's going on at home in the USA..
