Good excuse for an extra piss up to celebrate her Majesties Diamond Jubilee, not if they could just see their way to giving us St George's Day as a bank holiday...

Why isn't St George's Day a bank holiday?

Because he was a Roman?

Seriously. I have no idea. There's a swell of opinion that is should be over here, but honestly most people just want it as a day off and to go down the pub or stay in bed (not a bad thing LOL). Most people in the UK have no idea who the guy even was!

I know he was supposed to be a Roman ect ect and the whole thing is most likely just a myth but then so is Christmas, Easter, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. I just like having a day to celebrate being English.

I thought it didn't mention anywhere in the Bible that Jesus was born on Christmas or that we should celebrate his birthday?

What it's celebrating is a myth or are you going to now provide me with some hard evidence that Jesus existed, was born at Christmas and died at Easter? You're not very bright, are you? :24:

Christmas, and Easter happen every year. How in fucks name are they myths? Myths are something that was believed to existed but theres no hard proof; just stories. Celebrations that are incorperated into these holidays that revolve around Jesus have been happening since before Christians were even around. So how are they mythic? it's people like you so blinded by your hatred for religion you don't dig deeper.

It does mention in the bible that the shepherds were in their fields with their flocks when he was born which would show that he wasn't supposed to be born at Christmas as its very cold there then and the sheep would be safely tucked up in the barn.

Ffs Dana, are you really that thick? Christmas and Easter are celebrations of Jesus birth and his death. Jesus is a mythical figure, therefore Christmas and Easter are myths. Fairstories exist in tangiable forms such as books, does that make them real too? Jesus titty Christ! :willy_nilly:

this isn't even just a Christmas debate. This is about him misusing the word myth and not considering other cultural influences on Holidays.

Ffs Dana, I know your life is so boring you have nothing better to do except moan on here about stupid stuff but even this is petty by your standards.

I sort of get what you're saying but you're arguing over semantics and off the cuff remarks rather than interpretation. Which there is more of a case for.

St Georges Day should be a holiday really I think. If he was a Roman then he was more British than any of us :24:
