the proportion of neocons is greater than others on this board. ;)

I just think that its funny that g-slice thinks nothing of our funding and training of terrorist forces in the past and even now. I guess those are just mistakes, but when other countries do it we must INVADE.

It is quite ironic that all those who have attacked the US or threatened the US, have been those trained, funded, or simply put in power by the US.

Major lack of foresight.

Silly fool! Don't you know that America is ALWAYS a force of good in the world and has never done anything to abuse their power!? Why, you should be down on your face right now on a flag kissing it, and baking apple pie to repent for thinking!

Okay Pudding, here's the truth:

This site has been up for years, and we've always had healthy debate and discussion. The perception you have of all the same players always just agree with each other on everything is skewed by your own opinions and comments on site.

There are a few people here who have rather extreme views of the world, and more specifically the United States. All things are relative in the Universe. If you stand on the far left edge of the map, then of course everybody is going to be right of you. It isn’t that we always agree with each other, it’s that we don’t see things the way you do.

There are certain truths that most people see as apparent that you do not, and there are only so many ways to phrase them. When there isn't anything of substance that can be added to an observation, we +1 it to demonstrate consensus. If we didn't, then one could come to the misunderstanding that the lone wolf held equal sway over the populace which simply couldn't be further from the truth.

Ask anybody who's been here longer than the more extreme members of our little community. We didn't just sit around patting each other on the backs because we all thought the same things. If it were that boring here, you would never have joined.

From reps I've received on my post about this. Some older members agree with me about the cheerleading. You can say what you want to me about it. But my opinion stands. It's absolutely annoying to be reading a debate then have to read almost a whole page of cheers & praises with no actual input on the topic.

Please feel free to post those reps as you did your neg rep on other thread, because it is hard to understand what you mean here, really.

I agree with this 100%. It is very annoying to wade through :clap when they don't add to the conversation.
If you are going to take the time to read through the posts and comment, then at least post your thoughts on it...

Now going back to the OP...

Am I the only one that finds that wake up call misdirected? Who is he talking to, the American people?
He talks about going back to sleep, hitting the snooze button... Who is? The American people? Are we the ones that should go over seas to take care of these problems? I though it was the job of the military, the FBI, the CIA, etc. to protect us and to bring those people to justice.
So is he talking to the US government then? Is he saying that the military haven't been doing their jobs? I mean he comes right out and says that when he talked about the Iran hostage crisis.

Well, his statement is pretty meaningless. BUT, meaningless statements are needed to progress certain goals. What he really wants is the American people to "be with us or against us" and create a nationalistic divide among people to the extent to where if you even so much as disagree with the war, you're somehow against freedom/America/peace etc etc etc. Its all sensationalism.

Oh, I have no doubt. I probably even know who he is. To be honest, I often times feel the same lack of interest in the one liners, and skim. Something I have noticed though, that people are getting pretty creative with them, and they do tend to move the conversations along more smootly.

My specific problem with your outburst is the venom you use when you have a problem with something. I realize it may be your way, but it's offensive. You don't have to care necessarily, but you can't be that rude and simply EXPECT everybody to smile and accept your views and expressions without comment. You certainly don't go out of your way to be accepting of others, so it's just going to be part of your life for awhile (at least online.)

I couldn't possibly disagree with you any more. If you don't see meaning in the historical backdrop he laid down, then I can't convince you of it, but I literally can not understand how you can view this as some type of propaganda attack to confuse people.

By that logic, ... How to put this... ?? What kind of speech do you consider meaningful?

The sensationalism statement gave me a good laugh BTW. Some of the crap you post is insane. Even you can't stand behind it when really called. You told me you post it to be controversial. :smiley24:

No, its really a common tactic to whip up support for something. Try to relate the current situation to past situations, word your statements and twist phrases to make people support whatever you want them to and the people who don't look bad and are shunned. Its basic rhetoric.

Meaningful speech is speech that is not used to twist people's feelings like this guy is doing.

Other meaningless statements commonly used that are similar:

"You're either with us or against us"

"War on terrorism"

"You can't support the troops without supporting the war"

I don't bother being nice anymore.. Tried that, still pulling the knife out.. If I see something I don't agree with, I say so.

"War on terrorism"

"You can't support the troops without supporting the war"

Has to be three of the dumbest sentences I've ever heard.

No situation is black and white.

War on terrorism is a oxymoron.

Of course you can. Millions of Americans are doing it as we speak. How about the troops who don't support the war?

Absolutely stupid. Seems like he's the one that needs to wake up.

What does it mean if somebody asks you, Do you support the people in Iowa? Can you say, Yes I support them, or No, I don't support them? It's not even a question. It doesn't mean anything. That's the point. The point of public relations slogans like "Support our troops" is that they don't mean anything. They mean as much as whether you support the people in Iowa. Of course, there was an issue. The issue was, Do you support our policy? But you don't want people to think about that issue. That's the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody's going to be against, and everybody's going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something: Do you support our policy? That's the one you're not allowed to talk about. So you have people arguing about support for the troops? "Of course I don't not support them." Then you've won.
