American Sensitivity

Yes, and when this other person, let's say his name is BILL, is constantly posting anti american articles and statistics, the good people of OTZ could already grow tired of seeing these articles/statistics getting posted all the time, and have no patience for other people posting it as well, whether they are doing it on a daily basis or not.

Hey my name is Bill lol

You should of used the name Kevin :ninja

:p

What if it was a negative study? The results were negative to you.

Lol well I would like to have a look at it first. What bugs me more is if someone would post it to intentionally get to me for some reason. That fires me up ;)

:24: Watch out Haus :ninja

I feel like I'm pretty well aware of the issues and shortcomings in my country, I don't feel like I need someone who doesn't live here to point it out to me.

Yeah I understand that. But surely one article does not hurt right? I'm not posting it to hurt anyone, but because I just find it interesting. Is it not interesting that 18% of Americans believe the sun revolves around the Earth? I'm sure there are Aussies who think the same.

We're all aware that our countries have flaws, but no one appreciates foreigners pointing them out.

A bit like how it's okay for you to moan about your little sister, but if anyone else started slagging her off it's a different matter.

I think the world would be a far better place if people just dropped the whole patriotism bullshit and realised that all countries have good and bad points, there's no "best" country or culture in the world.

Being patriotic is just the ultimate in group stupidity. No offense to anyone, but really, if you're proud of your country, then you're automatically proud of all of the bad things they've done too. And, furthermore, unless you've lived in every country, understand every culture, you have absolutely no basis for your patriotism other than admitting you're just blindly following the herd without questioning why. This of course leads to quite abhorrent group behaviour (like war, for example.)

Take Britain for example. There's no getting around the fact it's done a lot for the world in terms of science, technology, art etc. But goddamn the crap Britain has done around the world: the Middle East mess is because of the Brits, the crap they pulled in India, most of Africa's problems can be traced back to the Brits (and the Dutch and French too) and plenty more too. Hardly something to be proud of.

Fuck patriotism.

but Ed it is the generation(s) before us (as far as I can see in America) that are still thinking old thoughts about America. these generations were part of the America that was pushing the world to follow its lead. it is sad to think that these same people cannot forget they thought they were the "greatest generation". these are the same people who are glorified in movies and make it sound like that entire generation fought and won WWII all by themselves. In the interviews post-war, most of these men were damn near frightened to go leave mom and dad behind and fight the fight. Well, truth be told, they would have given anything to stay behind and watch it from afar. My Uncles (who I never met) fought on the two battle fronts (Italy and Japan) and their letters home showed and wrote of the fear of the great unknown. When they returned home they never discussed what went on, but you can be assured they were just plain scared. The United States made the war effort sound impossible unless they joined in the fighting....

It baffles me how you come to this conclusion.

Patriosim isn't just about babbling about your love for your country. It's about being proud of the people of your country, what they stand for, and the accomplishments they've made. Furthermore, citizens of a country have something in common, which binds them together in a national sense.

It's sort of like a family. You're proud of your family and admire it. Does that mean that you approve of all the bad things that some of your family members may have done? Of course not. You stand by your family through the good and bad.

Edit: And another thing. The constant statsitics about crap in America is annoying after a while. Like others have said, Americans realize the problems that this country has. We know it isn't perfect, in fact, we realize it's far from perfect. We don't need people from other countries enlightening us on this.

No it's entirely about being proud for no other reason than making you tow the line and serve your elites. The same in any country. And if you dare to question them, you're being unpatriotic.

If your brother was a cold blooded murderer, would you stand by him? No, you wouldn't. So why would you stand by your country which does exactly the same?
