I think the root is more based in religion than a mineral or commodity.. Those who can control the minds of others will always want war.. Again just my opinion..

The " free " or " civilized " world won't be crossing any large bodies of water to get those commodities. We ( North America ) have more than enough resources and ability to maintain what we need to survive providing we have oil. In other words.... the USA won't be fighting over those items ( food and water ) as they do for oil today and Canada won't be a follower. That takes care of a lot right there. It's the rouge countries that would be a concern right off the bat. Other than those every " civilized " country will have to concentrate of survival alone. Remember we need oil to produce our food and without it I'm thinking we're all going to be dead anyway.

We already are squabbling about water rights in the Southeast and Southwest U.S. You can only feed so many cows on any given pasture, and the American pasture only has so many acre-feet of ground water beneath it. The next 20 years will be interesting.

What's crazy to me is that the Sheriff's Department in Bibb County starts out paying like $12 per hour. The crime rate is something like 9th highest for violent crimes for cities of similar size. No way I would put my life on the line every day for $12 an hour when you can sit in dispatch in MY county and make more than a dollar more an hour STARTING OUT.

I hope to hell the cost of living is outrageously high, LOL Okay, no I don't...but I'm sure there's a good reason it's that high...right??? Our agency is actually one of the highest paid in the state.

Ok, I looked it up, converted it and the starting pay for police over here is between $15 - 20 US an hour and you wont have to deal with nearly as many people shooting guns at you.

It can be quite high in comparison to what you have going on in your area.

After the " trainee " qualifies this is what they can expect. ( my brother is quite high up the ladder after spending quite a few years as a paramedic. Apparently all " ambulance dispatchers " must maintain their paramedic licence as well as continue with their upgrades. )

My brother loves working his overtime as well as stat holidays. Now that his kids are older he banks his overtime and has scads of paid weeks off. It seems like he's off work with pay more than he works.

Well petrol is probably more expensive but overall it's probably a hell of a lot cheaper because you dont have to pay thousands of dollars and go bankrupt for neccessary health care, you get it all for free on the NHS.

More than enough from first hand dealings with them where I live, McDonalds workers deserve more money than them. Besides, they make 10 times that stealing drugs off of people, not reporting it and selling it themselves (facts I have witnessed first hand)

I would LOVE to be making that kind of money (not sure where I would fall on the scale, but I assume w/ 11 years experience and being a shift supervisor it would be pretty high on up there). I can't complain, though...I'm literally a dime short of having doubled my salary in 11 years. I must remind myself I am fortunate, LOL

Then they are transferred to the proper section depending on the answer they get. Considering the paramedics look after the ambulance side of things I'm sure experienced cops and firemen do the same for their services. The reason for that is because the call taker will be more familiar to what's actually going on and what further services may be required.

I'm actually already an EMT-I (step below a Paramedic). Our system is completely different. My agency is what we call a consolidated center, meaning that we dispatch police, fire, and EMS from one central location. Within 6 months of being hired we attend a certification course for Basic Communications Officer and shortly after that we are certified in CPR/AED and taught EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch). When we receive a medical call we have a set of EMD cards that we use to gather information from the patient and, based on what answers they give, we decide whether the ambulance responds with or without lights and sirens and whether or not the fire department goes w/ them. Certainly sounds a lot more complicated, huh??? LOL I don't know if any of that even makes sense to somebody outside the agency, especially considering things are so different where you are, but I hope it does.
