The issue concerning the US is one of the Taliban as the once legal government of Afghanistan, gave protection to al Qaeda after starting a terrorist war with the US.
The Taliban became allies of al Qaeda during a war al Qaeda started.
Saudi Arabia had/has noting to do with the US in that context.
