I disagree, I think this move on the part of Franken symbolises the frustration and hostility that some of the more liberal Democrats feel towards Liebermann because of his stance against any bill including a public option.

Lieberman is a dick and needs to be shut down. The democrats need to remove his chairmanship and treat him like the traitor he is. I guess the millions in campaign contributions he got from the insurance companies really paid off...

This bills does not even rank up as high as garbage. The whole point of this manufactured crisis is that immediate reform is needed and costs need to be contained. Neither of which is gonna happen with this turd.

You can defend it if you like but if you were honest you would agree. No tort reform, no cross state purchasing, several million still will not be covered and it won't even take effect for three friggin years.

There are thousands of options on how to carry out an order. His "in my capacity" (or however he phrased it) remark was smartass, rude, and uncalled for, especially since the time wasted in objecting and discussing the issue could have gone to Lieberman to finish his statement.

I just saw it as typical DC arrogance. A lot of them have a chip on their shoulder. Most as a result of not being in the real world for quite a long time.

Tort reform yes, but that will save less than 1% so you need to be honest that it isn't reform.
Buying policies across state lines does nothing unless you remove the exemption to the anti trust laws insurance companies enjoy. They will just fix the prices to their liking. Even then you won't get any benefit buying a policy across state lines since you couldn't enjoy the saving by using their network of hospitals and doctors. That is where the savings really happen.

The bill they have right now is crap, it has been so fucking watered down it does nothing but line the pockets of insurance companies.

If we want real reform that makes sense and costs us much less, we need to first reform government. We need to replace every one of these fucking crooks with people that are there to serve the people, not the interests of big business. Until we have publicly financed elections, runoff voting and make it a felony for any member of congress or their families to accept any money except the public funding. We will never see change. And I would also like to add a no compete clause to congress. If you are serving the public, you would be banned from entering the public sector for 5 years if they were people that benefited from your votes/legislation.

Single payer is the only real solution. Pass a law that would make it a felony to make any profit on basic health care.

I disagree about tort reform. There is more to it than cutting the lawsuit expenditures. There is a ton of stuff done to patients that is cover your ass tests. Your back is hurt and they will make you take 6 months of therapy instead of just giving you an MRI which eventually does happen. Lots of way to cut costs. My main point though was that this turd they have proposed does nothing to cut costs. The only thing of merit in it is to ban preexisting conditions.
