Not trying to change you opinion, but I get tired of the argument "Theres no evidence." Well thousands of years ago there was no known/current evidence that water was made up of H20, or that the earth was round, or if the sun burnt out we would all die, or F=MA, E=MC^2, yada yada yada. My point is, simply because there is lack of scientific proof now does not mean something does not exists.

Of all the people on this Earth, there is only one I truly trust in all things.....My Mother. Many years ago she had a heart attack and was clinically dead for almost 10 minutes. After an incredible change in who she is transpired in the years after she was "brought back", a few of us kids asked her what lead to the changes. (Mom went from a housewife, to a Holistic healer/Clinical Psycologist/Shaman...in about a decade). She explained a few things to me about what happened, and I now accept that there may very well be quite a bit more to this theory than we know.
My Mother now knows the Dhali, and a few other people I doubt anyone here has heard of, but has become the most spiritual person I have ever met, primarily due to what she experienced in the short time she was not with us. The key here is, that it really does not matter what others believe, it has no effect whatsoever on the so called "afterlife".....and no one really knows for sure.

Hmm, i'm starting to sway more towards believing in the after life, and here is my reasoning.

If God is real, and the bible truely is the work of God, then there are two alternatives.

Believe and repent - go to heaven.
Do not believe/repent - go to hell.

If God is NOT real, and the bible truely is NOT the work of God. Then there are two means to the same end.

Believe/repent- Life ends, nothing happens.
Disbelieve - Life ends nothing happens.

So being the mathematically person that I am, Its only wise to chose the options that yeilds the best percentage of "good". If I believe and repent, I have a 50% shot of making it to heaven. If I dont believe or repent, then i've got a 0% chance of making it.

EDIT: of course, all of this is based on Christianity beliefs.

Agreed!

The idea of hell makes the least sense to me. If God is love then why would he torture people for all eternity? And if Satan is in charge of hell that would make him in harmony with God and thus actually good too.:confused

I am sure many are aware of my beliefs on this but I will chime in for the hell of it. With my medical knowlege and background, I am to believe that humans are more of a chemical reaction than a spiritual creation. I used to believe when you are gone you become an angel to watch over the rest of us left here. However, the more I learn about the human body, the more I dont believe any of that. I would love to believe that my grampas and my cat are watching over me. And sometimes it gives me a reason to smile when I see signs that could be from them. However, I highly doubt it. I think it is just a trained reaction to dealing with grief. Doesnt mean I love them any less though.

I didn't want to get involved, but now I feel like I have to.

OUZBnd, stop trying to statistically rationalize your beleifs. It's ridiculous.

"50% to 0%" is extremely flawed.

First off, it's assuming that either you're right or no one's right. Yes, I can repent...unless the Catholics are right. So I can be a Catholic...unless the Jews are right. So I can be a Jew...unless the Satan-Worshipers are right.

There's a million differen't beleifs...briniging it down to 2 options is insane.

Secondly, how can one force themselves to rediscover belief? I know the sky is blue...how do I convince myself it's purple and repent for always thinking it was blue?

And don't fed me this, "I'm not here to change anyones beleifs." BS. You want people to beleive what you believe just as much as I want people to beleive what I beleive; that's why you've posted and reposted on this thread.

Back off Crazed. You failed to read one main point I made. If you would have read the below quote then you could have saved yourself the time of "getting involved" and wasting the effort of trying to analyze me.

of course, all of this is based on Christianity beliefs.

You've read me all wrong. I have been as much if not more of a critic to religous views more than anyone here (except for sharpies ;) ). So don't sit back and call BS on me and tell me I want you to believe what I do. I couldn't give a rats ass if what you believe. I don't care if you pray to giant zit on your girlfriends nose, it doesn't effect me one way or the other. It's as simple as that.
