We bought fertilizer for our yard a couple of weeks ago. It requires being wet afterward and since we live on a lot that is close to 1.5 acres watering is not practical. I have been waiting on the rain. Delivery arrived this morning. I am anxious to see results...What we bought for weed & feed is specifically designed for the South and has fire ant poison included. If it works right I should have several months with no ants and less weeds and a greener lawn.

Oh, I remember my one and only encounter with fire ants. I was visiting my aunt and uncle in Florida and suddenly I stepped in a fire ant hill and started dancing around cussing, my husband looked at me as if I were possessed. My uncle knew exactly what happened. Those ants move so damn quickly and the stings/bites they do are aptly named fire! My aunt broke off an aloe vera plant they had and I was amazed at the instant relief.

The thing about fire ants is you don't get stung by one. They will crawl all over you and then all sting at once. They are creatures from Hell.

I guess they form hills real fast too. I can't remember what he did to the hill, do you burn it or what? That's one big thing I didn't like about florida, that grass.

You can burn the hills but it is not good for thr ground water because you need fuel to set it on fire. Also, fire burns up an area of your lawn too.

Yeah that's true, but with the kind of grass they had, I don't know if it mattered if they had a burnt spot. My idea of grass and the spiky stuff they had are way far apart. YUK. I'm not saying your yard is like that Fred, but their yard was. I think if it were me I'd go artificial turf rather than that stuff.

Not sure what type grass they had. Southeast corner of Alabama is called "The Wiregrass". They have grass down there that will choke a mower if it is not sharp.
