Nah. I just know here in EACS, the school district I went into. A starting teachers salary was 26,000 a year, paid all year round for 9 months of actual teaching.

A starting firefighter made 21,000. A starting police officer who passed all the requirements and graduated the acadamy made 23,000.

Those rates are only going to go up as the professional gains experience... and it also depends on the college degrees they have.

Oh and after 50 years of teaching, my old History teacher made 50,000+ a year.... benefits, sick days vacation days all paid... Such a horrible salary I tell you.

If you think about it James, $50,000 a year with 50 years experience is terrible.

I'm already way ahead of that without any college education and less than have of that work history. And to top it all off, my job isn't as important as a teachers.

Ok, tell your boss to give you a paycut and donate part of your salary to the local school district for use of teacher payroll?

Why do teachers need to make 100k a year? 1 mill a year?

After you made your first million, would you not start investing and get the hell out of that job?

I would, but the players who make millions in a year are the good ones. The ones that based their professional career on playing the sport. Who may not have any other talents other than knowing the game and doing it their best.

Not all players make millions a year. Just the ones that give a city it's name recognition, part of it's tourist appeal, and put money into the city treasury.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, also goes to pay salaries for civil workers.

I don't like it that they get paid so much either, but, like what was pointed out already, they only get that much money because the spectators and fans pay the ridiculously high amounts for tickets and concessions at the games. They buy the jerseys and the sports cards and the ballcaps. And, as long as there are fans, these atheletes will continue to get paid the millions.
On the flip side, I have been in the military for 11 years. So far this year I have earned over $60,000. Add into that the fact that I get free medical and dental care whenever I need it. Need a prescription? I get it for free. I am entitled to 30 days paid vacation a year. I am a mere 6 credits short of earning my Associates Degree. How much have I paid for that? Just the cost of the textbooks... nothing more.
I must admit, I have it better than some others that are on the government's payroll. But you won't hear me complain if/when we do get a payraise.

Football players in England are getting paid more and more ludicrous wages and to be honest it's sucking the soul out of the game. You now have a league where 4 clubs are the only ones who are going to win the league who can meet stupid wage demands which other clubs can't. As a result lots of lower league clubs are suffering financial difficulties and are in danger of collapsing. This will be very bad for the game because these clubs are the training grounds for our future stars. It now seems to be less about the game and all about business.
As for teachers, firefighters ect not getting paid as much, that is because they are getting paid by our taxes not by what we spend when we go to a sports event.

Football players only entertain. Police, teacher, firefighters save your lifes.
James if you said thats all foodball players know how to do, well then that is just sad. Look at teachers, they went to college for 4+ years and start off around 30,000 a year. and they have to deal with alot. I give praises to Austin's teacher. I dont think I would be able to teach him w/ other students as well and she is the only teacher so far that has made so much progress with him. Police here make around 23,000 a year and they come to peoples house and try to protect them from the bad guys... Not to mention get shot at.. I work hard at my job and I make more than a police officer right now. (not much more, but more) Yes they get raises all the time, but it still doesnt make a difference.

The citys waste money every year, if they would just give a good raise to the officers, that wouldnt be them wasting the money.

Im sure this all didnt make sense, i just got out of bed.

How is that bullshit? The Franchise owner doesn't pay taxes on the salaries? He doesn't pay property taxes to the city? He doesn't pay lease fees, or any of those fun fee's to the city?

People coming from all over the state/multi-state region don't spend their money in that stadium?

Revenue is the source of all evil. As long as that team can support it's salary and all the other operating expenses, it's doing the city good by bringing in moneys.

If you think that's bullshit, perhaps you should take a lesson in economics.

Ok well no response... I'll take this opportunity to stray from the fire fighter/police/teacher part and go ahead and give you 1800984898478% agreeance to US Soldiers needing a raise. Especially when they get deployed into battle. However when you're stationed in Kansas with free rent and free meals, they do just fine. My brother didn't seem to have any problems affording games, dvds, new gaming systems, an expensive car, etc.
