A question concerning me

Well Tim, I am a bird lover and have rescued several birds in my time including reuniting a signet with its parent mute swan which was very dangerous! I've also rescued birds as diverse as pigeons to woodpeckers. The truth is I would NEVER leave a bird in danger but that's just me I guess. I have no time for pointless cruelty to animals.

I dont think I could sleep at night if there was a bird or any animal who might be in danger or pain. I would do something. Maybe make a house or something for it to hide in, call a vet and talk to them... etc.
Yes I would do it. Im a total sucker for animals. I volunteer my spare time and money at animal shelters, I am a foster home for diabetic cats and dogs, and I know my vet's phone number and personal email off the top of my head... So yeah. I would help.

Mother nature is alot tougher than most people think. Believe me... I know. I have been in several experiences where I could have lost my life due to the forces of nature. I think the bird would have made it, they always seem to find a way.

You're a human, much stronger than a bird. And that makes no sense o_O Saying that mother nature is very tough and then saying the bird could have made it. :confused Moving on. I don't think you did the right thing. You could have just kept an eye on the baby bird for a little while, or called somebody.

I broke a cats neck once. It had been hit by a car and deffinately wasnt makin it.

There's a slight difference to me here. The cat was clearly suffering and I could see how breaking its neck could be good. But I've seen cases where animals pull through some horrific things (a dog dragged for miles behind a car) and not only living but living a full, pain-free life.

I think if it was someones pet, I'd take it to the vet. Wild animals are different though. I killed a hedgehog which the missus ran over once though it was horrible doing it. A lot of animals which get run over, you're not allowed to get fixed up and released into the wild as the're considered pests, squirell's for example. In the case of them its best to put them out of their misery if the're in a lot of pain or don't look likely to survive in the wild.

That is the Way it should be really, If you hit a wild animal with your car, and it does not kill them, but the injurys are going to eventually, Then Sadly you do need to put them out.

If you call DOW because you hit a deer or something here, thats what they will do, Kill the animal before removing it. there really is not much else to be done for them, and it is better then leaving them to suffer.
