he actually dropped a 40D into a river?

He was leaning out over the edge of the boat to take a picture around a bend in the river. He lost his balance and almost fell in himself. The camera tumbled out of his hands and he dove in after it anyway.

Were you able to retrieve it?

Yeah, and we immediately pulled all the pieces apart (batteries out, memory card out, lens off, battery grip off, flash off etc) and put it on a towel to dry out. Apparently though, it is dead.

At least you got your memory card. I might be tempted to open all the cases on it and set it in an oven with the door ajar at about 150 degrees for about 30 minutes to see if it would pull all the moisture out and try it again.

Well I brought the whole shebang into the computer shoppe in town. They are tryyyyying to dry it out and see what they can retrieve. Hopefully the whole thing can be saved! But if not, they are pretty sure they can save my pictures. I hadn't taken them off in a while and there are about 2,000 pictures on there!!

Another thing to try when something like that happens is a bag of rice. It will also pull the moisture out.

That does really suck! Sorry for the loss. Hopefully the next camera (ifyou get one) will be even bigger and better...and stays out of water lol.

Oh that would so suck to lose 2,000 pics! I assume many came with you from Austrialia.

Good luck! :)
