i'm guessing it was a juvenile buzzard,considering its size, which is big i'm left wondering what took it down

Gruesome indeed. Almost looks like something tried to tear its wings off given the way the feathers are there.

That's how you gut a bird though. Stand on it's wings and pull it's feet. Thats what I do.

I'm thinking a Sidewinder Missile took it down. It's kinda easy to tell cuz there isn't anything left except the wings and a small portion of the backbone holding them together. If it was a Stinger Missile there would have been nothing left to see.
