I'm always amazed at the height too. One of my friends grew an "elephant ear" sunflower one year. It was a wonder! The leaves were longer than my arm and the flower center was as big as my head or bigger?
The other thing about fields of them is the way they follow the sun. They turn towards it, like they were worshipping it.

And I know what you mean about following the sun.... I could see that when I turned down the road aways and they were looking sideways there! Totally cracked me up!
It's kind of eerie too!! Human sized, with near human sized" heads" and being "animated" for lack of a better word. Almost like people caught in the body of giant flowers.

Hahaha...... I'm glad my sunflowers are behind the house where I can't see them at night! :willy_nilly:
My childhood thoughts didn't revolve around flowers, vegetables, or minerals for that matter..... It was the 'shadow people'! :eek You know.... the ones you see lurking ten minutes after you've been safely tucked in for the night by mom and dad and the lights go out..... There's a noise in the closet and of course the door is ajar and you swear you've seen one of the 'shadow people'! Suddenly another appears just outside your bedroom door... and another yet on the ceiling... I always wondered about that ceiling one. Anyone knows you shouldn't be hanging off high places like that. Sheesh.....
Anywho.... by the time all those 'shadow people' fill the voids in the corners of the room and your child mind.... you pull up the covers over your head and the yawns start in. I am very good at yawning. Why, I've been known to start a yawn convention at work and at parties and just about anywhere I go.
Ahem.... so.... what was I saying? Oh yes.... yawning..... *YAWN*.......

As for "shadow people", oh yeah! I'm very familiar with them. I used to see them reflected from the lights in the hallway in the shiny door knob, you know that black blob that seems to move?:eek The number of nights I went to sleep, head under blankets!! :ninja
Sunflower people are just one of my "thoughts", along with them and "shadow people", were the monster under the bed which would grab your ankle on the way into bed. Or the creaking floor boards caused by ghosts. Or the doll which sits benevolently on a chair until the lights go out then it's formerly beautiful face appears sinister and threatening. And a I contemplated all that, my mouth is dry and I hear the thundering drum beat of my heart in ears and swear if I looked, I could see it beating through my chest.
Fun huh?

I don't like guns myself.... but if you learn to handle one properly.... and get over any fears you might have.....
They still scare the heck outta me! I've only used guns to shoot at targets. I would never want to use one to actually hit anything... animal or otherwise. I hope that if I were ever to have to use one and only if in self defense.... that I'd damn well be able to! Ummmm.... personally... I'm hoping never to have to put that to the test.
I fear other people having them or getting them and then accidentally shooting me, close call when I was a teen.
I hope you don't have to put it to the test either Red. I think if I had to, I could, but I too hope to never find out if I could.

Guns don't scare me half as much as the other drivers on MY roads out there..... I only drive about 14 miles one way to work..... but it's rural highways until I get to the expressway.... I've had so many idiots cross the line so close and then there are those that think they have time to pass coming right at you..... :willy_nilly:

I know what you mean about driving. I don't have it that bad, though I am rural, we don't seem to have that many problems here, with collisions anyway. Load of people drive off the roads on curves though. The freeways are another story. Too many idiots driving too fast in traffic. :eek
I'll never give up my road trips though!

We used to pile into the car on Sundays for day trips!!
Just to the mountains or up the coast. I like 'em too much!! Bad drivers be darned!
