and retro I am at work, but I will respond to your post later. Thank you guys for having a civil informative discussion. I am trying to get back into caring. I used to be one hell of a debater, but I just am out of the loop lately.

Why, yes you were  Remembering the OldeDays fondly are you? ;)

I have to agree. Civil discussions in politics is quite refreshing compared to what we are used to :cool:24:

*in my best WhineyVoice: That's Not True* :D *goes down checklist of all things that have indeed been proven true* (sorry y'all private joke between us)

Tho I have no desire to take up ShillSlaying again.... Doctors orders.

It actually started with Reagan, he was the worst of the bunch

But you need to know the past and where things went wrong to get it right now.
You should do the same. Do the letters FDR mean anything? You can arguably go back as far as Wilson.

And the fact that everyone sees the past through partisan glasses adds to the problem.
Actually not everyone does see through partisan glasses, but you certainly do.

FDR?
A 1999 survey by C-SPAN found that by a wide margin academic historians consider Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Roosevelt the three greatest presidents, consistent with other surveys.[122]

Wasn't he the one that signed the Glass-Steagall act which established the FDIC?

Can you imagine what it would be like to get a notice that your bank has been closed and you lost everything? Even though the constitution doesn't specifically grant the government this power, it sure does help... :dunno

I acknowledged that in another thread, as you well know. Repealing Glass-Steagall in '99 (Democrat President, Republican Congress, for those who are keeping score) was one of the stupidest moves of our lifetimes. I also think trustbusting is a good idea, for those that having a balanced, realistic point of view is hypocrisy.

Did your Wiki article clarify what "great" means?

While FDR did sign one piece of legislation that had long-term benefit, the vast majority of his shotgun, do-anything-just-do-something had no effect, did immediate harm & was abandoned, or did serious long-term damage - great damage, if you will - to our society based on individual liberty.

And you don't. I see... :p

It's absolutely no surprise you think FDR is a bad guy, because programs for the people are bad, always. Helping tilt the balance of power just a little bit from large powerful business interests to working class folks is a crime. Understood. It's much better if everyone just fends for themselves. And if they are not a big powerful business interest, then tough shit. Because if everyone had done what they should of, gotten their masters, they could all go to work for Wallstreet or Walmart and everyone would be living the dream. :smiley24:

Point it out. If you can, I'll own it.

You own quite a bit of the rose colored views around here. ;)
Standard sidestep, as expected.

I didn't know there was an organizational chain of command. You couldn't pass the word on to the right button-pusher?? Where's that customer service guy I was talking to last time -- the one with the Indian accent? :D

this thread is awesome, it's not even on the rails anymore and seems to have taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

here's an idea, argue the topic, not each other? i know, that's too hard for some of you.

Okay, fine. But it won't be nearly as much fun. :jk

I'm all for solutions.

Ok, who in Congress is working for the common good?

This is the crux of the problem, as I see it. Large parts of our society disagree on what "the common good" is. What Obama et al seem to define as the common good is societal destruction for many others.
