What I thought made the movie great was the simplicity of the characters, and the complexity of the storyline.

I mean you had a good idea up-front what was happening, but the shortest distance between two point is a straight line is great, just not in the theatre.

But I can see how you would feel that way, it was a mixed bag for the critics, but it was nominated for Best Picture.

The storyline definitely had me. I think I just got lost in the beginning with the inconsistent flash backs and the fact they spent very little time on some of the characters, which was probably done for artistic reasons, but man that bugged me, you didn't get a chance to care about some of the people he touched... they were essentially stepping stones for the last one. (or side steps to break up that story line)

I must say however, most of the acting was top notch.

Oh I totally see and respect your view:nod:

Part of what bothered me at first was the lead role centrism, but I sort of thought by the end, that the people he was helping/or had already helped were the sideline.

The story was what one moment in your past could do to torture your soul in the future, and with all his insight into what he needed to do to right what he thought was so wrong, failed to make him realize that his life was spared, but guilt outweighed even our basic instinct for self preservation.

In that way, I immediately saw the link between Smith and his "pet"
