I graduated high school. Most of my friends went to the beach after graduation. I had to be at work at 6 am the next morning. Should have been an indication of where I was headed. Worked some kind of job since I was 11 or 12 and rarely taken a vacation. I only remember two week long vacations in all those years.

I couldn't find a job until I was 16. When I did get one, I worked weekends and summers for almost 3 years.

I regret it now because it feels like I wasted a lot of time at a job that I hated, while the rest of my friends had time off.

Fred, how can you deprive yourself of a vacation...for chrissakes man!!

Every job I have had since about 1982 I was in a position where if I was not at work the whole place might as well shutdown. That was way before I went into business for myself. Now days money is just too tight.

Vacation...what's that?!? I haven't had a "vacation" since I was 22. Unless you consider being laid off of work when I worked construction a vacation. Money is really just too tight and taking a week off just to sit at the house kind of defeats the purpose. I average 50 hours a week. If I take a week off, I take a pay cut and I really can't afford that. Not to mention the added cost of actually going somewhere. Don't get me wrong, we have amusement park passes and I go fishing, golfing, poker night and go out to watch UFC fights every month. That's my sanity check! ;)

That's just a luxury that you give up I suppose when you decide to have children :) And I wouldn't change that for the world.
