Yay, it's another "bash Americans" thread... from an American. Jesus Christ, you'd think you hated the country that you live in with all of the shit you post. Oh wait, you just hate Conservatives and everyone else that dares to have beliefs that differ from your own... because you're obviously the most intelligent person in the country, so we would all be wise to believe everything that you do.

Chill out Retro. I don't hate anybody - not even conservobots who vote against their own interests or TEAbots that can't spell. Right wingers do, however, tend to be dumber on average - studies have shown this. Didn't mean for this to get political - but you did remind me of this shining example of a fine American conservative:

I do wonder why my fellow Americans get so bent out of shape when it is fairly pointed out a large number of our population are dumbfucks that didn't pay attention in school. They just want to excuse it away and blame public education, or the government or whatever - rather than taking responsiblity for it.

The more we talk about it, the more likely folks might decide to educate themselves when they realize the rest of the industrialized world is laughing at them.

Years ago during a visit to Boston, I was talking to my aunt's neighbours' kids (all high school students) and they were asking about Canada....it was an election year but I can't remember if it was a Canadian or US election...

Anyway, the Prime Minister came up in conversation and they were wondering where he fit in the grand scheme of things...was he above, below or equal to the Vice President. I explained none of the above, that Canada was a separate country, and all that goes with that, they wouldn't believe me, thought I was crazy...Canada is DEFINITELY a part of the States. Ummm...yeah...ok....great learnin' there.

Yes, I know that's not the general population but I was just flabbergasted and thought I'd share. :cool

No student left behind has more than one meaning ;)

Exactly. What is "getting old" is the fact that it is not improving.

Maybe if we ignore it a little more it'll get better?

Education system has failed big time. They don't take a map out and look at the world. Maybe in grade six have a test of the different countrys in the world. That is bad.

Thank GOD for GPS & Google. :24:

You make nearly everything political.... good God, don't try to claim otherwise. Furthermore, for every example of "conservative" stupidity, I can pretty much assure you that there's one out there that is equal to it from a "liberal".... it's just that the ones from Conservatives tend to be publicized more often by the MSM. Also... did I blame public education, the government, or anything else? Fuck no. I said that this isn't a problem that's unique to the United States... it's a problem with people, regardless of their nationality. You find stuff like this all over the place... Britain, Germany, Russia, China, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.

It wasn't until you showed up. But since you're here, conservobots do need to unlearn the bad habit of voting against their own best economic and educational interests. Liberals at least know how to use spell check ;)

Best interests in your opinion... that concept is something that you don't seem to be able to understand. It's also pretty typical of you to simply ridicule anyone that doesn't agree with you... right out of Saul Alinsky's book, I'm sure he'd be proud of you. Oh, and you're the one that made things political right from the beginning... but it doesn't surprise me that you can't see that.

This is true. Let's get back on topic. ;)

If one wants to take the first post to its logical conclusion then it would be to condemn the educational system in the US.

That would be the system that some particular interest groups stand behind 100% and want to protect at all costs.

The same system that has a shining beacon in Detroit.

Detroit will never rebound without a vibrant educational system. Instead is has been run into the ground due to corruption and incompetence at the highest levels.

And before anybody makes the claim it is due to the population leaving in massive numbers they should do some research. This has been a systemic problem for over 40 years in Detroit. Has nothing to do with the economy in the last few years.

Surely seems to be unrelated to population. No one was showing up to school as it was, now they just don't live there either.

Man, Detroit sounds like Buffalo.

Detroit is way worse than any other place. It is a textbook example of being dysfunctional for well over 40 years.

I merely stated the issue of population as Detroits has plummeted and with it money from the state for education. Problems were fully entrenched long before mass exidous

I remember geography and civics always being a low point for students

Yet many of these same students might knock your socks off when it comes to math

I know when I was in school I was not fond of history nor geography. And in such cases you either need a damn good teacher to spark interest or the info just is not going to sink in like it should.

I am sure a survey could be done from any country and you will find people ignorant of their own country as well. I know more smart Americans than I do that fall under the stereotype.

That said, I still find this video amusing :D

I don't get this people who vote against their best interests nonsense. I'm an independent; I hate politics and keep my nose just close enough to have a little idea of whats going on. If both parties at the ballot booth are 2 evils, I usually vote for the lesser of the two even though I was never for that candidate. Besides that elections are fucking rigged by big business so really it doesan't matter who the fuck anyone votes for until we topple the regime that is the corporate hold on America.
