Party allegiance

Yeah i'm new here, and I just realized how many die hard republicans there are! the america in exile thing is a nice touch. Just curious to if you guys and gals actually listen to anything that comes from the democratic party or just automatically refuse it right away? (not being cynical, i'm actually curious). How do you recieve the info: do you find yourself needing to find a flaw, because in your view there's something obviously wrong? Do you do the same for you're own party? Do you support the party and thereby all the decisions that they make, or do you consider the issues thereby validating the party? Personally I lean more the left, but I try to listen to the oppositions points before I make my decision on an issue.

I listen to everything the democratic party says. I don't think I've ever found anything I agree with though.

- I don't agree with socialism
- I don't agree with giving money to the poor
- I don't agree with higher taxes on the rich
- I don't agree with bailouts for business people (or consumers/houseowners) who make stupid choices
- I don't agree with initiatives to get minority groups into owning their own home
- I don't agree with scholarships based on race
- I don't agree with ending the war in Iraq based on a timeline
- I don't agree with letting terrorists run amok all over the world without doing a dang thing about it
- I don't agree with letting other countries with ill-intentions develop nuclear weapons
- I don't agree with spending billions of dollars on "green" energy initiatives
- I don't agree that global warming is even happening
- I don't agree with the decision to continue the ban on offshore drilling
- I don't agree with the decision to ban drilling in national parks

I could go on... but yeah, I carefully consider all the liberal ideas of the Dems, and haven't yet found any that I agree with.

You're missing a subtle distinction. It's Conservatives in Exile, not Republicans in Exile ;) There's a big difference. Especially in the last 8 years the Republican party has strayed from it's conservative base. I disagree with the Republicans on several issues, it just so happens I disagree with the Democrats on a lot more.

You could also say the Republican party strayed from the voting public base.
The majority just plain had enough . >f
 
I like to think of my self to be niether democrat or republican but if you take all my beliefs and pick one I guess I would fit somewhere. I like listening to the radio politics to learn what is happening but I dont let the speakers cloud my judgement. As far as that goes I am a peace person. I wish everyone would just be their wild and zaney selves as long as it doesnt physically intefere with someone elses wild and zaney life and just be nice to one another. I know my spelling sucks but Im in a hurry
 
I think I am, for the most part conservative/republican. I agree with everything SgtSpike said, except maybe the last thing- there aren't enough pretty, natural places left in the world.

However, I did notice when I was voting locally this year, I voted dem a fair bit. I found a site with all the candidates and read their ideas without reading their affiliation. I don't think it's wise to blindly assume that since someone claims the same party as you, they have the same ideas. It depends on the specific topics that the person has influence over if elected.

There's on thing I would like to say. Democrats are not socialists.
 
I agree with the original concept of Republican based spending, the right's approach to personal intrusion, the importance of military spending and the conservation of morality.

However, I think that where they have strayed off the path, and I have said it before...Is by swinging the morality stick, and not watching their own backyard...

Personally they need to move towards the center socially because let's face it, if the issue isn't Constitutionally protected.....It needs to be handed over to the states, they need to manage the budget, the military, foriegn affairs but not manage my life.

That's why I have leaned more to the right, I never felt like they were trying to take anything from me and give it to someone else.

Just because we have public streets doesn't mean we are socialists. I gave a generalized statement because GENERALLY SPEAKING, democrats want more socialism in this country, such as taking more money from the rich and giving it to the poor, universal healthcare, etc. I could do with LESS socialism. Things like paved streets are great - I have no problem with paying for taxes for that. But supporting someone financially who is too fat to work because they took one-too-many trips to MickyD's? No, that's just wrong.

I'd like to know how many years back something called "personal responsibility" went out the window. You know, that way of living that gets you to save a few thousand in the bank in case you lose your job, and stops you from eating fast food all the time so you don't get fat, and doesn't let you buy a house when you're one paycheck away from losing it? Yeah, that. What happened to it?
